Guest Jersey Couple Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Hi All Well we have landed in Sydney and things are getting sorted out. We decided to sell the Subaru but I need to ship my 1966 Porsche over here, its LHD and has no air con but she is a beauty. Can anyone recommend a shipper on the south coast, i.e Portsmouth or somewhere down there. I dont think I will have the same issues with a 1966 car as I would with a newer car, although I am sure there will be a whole host of other red tape and hoops to jump through. Any pointer on shipping a classic would be welcomed. Thanks Rob
cdb Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 You don't want to do RORO with a classic porsche, You would be much better getting a container, Any pics of the Porsche?

Guest PasonJayne Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Deffo put in container, i am shipping my Porsche Carrera S 2006 in January and its going in a box, not risking RORO. If you want any advice PM me, ive been through everything with a fine toothcomb, made sure no charge is missed off as a lot of costs involved some you dont expect. Also got a list of registration charges when the car arrives in Australia (mine is going to VIC so may be different to Sydney). I got Marine insurance from Australian company worked out cheaper than UK insurance brokers. Be careful when gettting costs off Port Agents as the costs they give are approximate, like everything they quote cheap to get the business and then the car arrives and all others charges get put on, make sure you have every cost before it leaves, no suprises then when it lands. Also import approvals taking longer than normal to process so worth getting in the system asap. *** I have enclosed a spreadsheet to help work out costs, The registration fees are for VIC but you can change accordingly. Also bear in mind not all cars will have Luxury Car tax, only those over $57,000. You can change exchange rate to update the other costs, Hope it helps***
