Guest peterpan89 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Hi guys, I was just wondering about evidence for a De Facto Visa, when making copies of documents such as Bank Statements, Bills, etc...should they be certified or can we use just ordinary photocopies? Also, how did you who have entered visas manage to get stat decularations by other people signed by people, and then signed by witnesses? Did you have to drag the person along to a JP? lol sorry I just find this very interesting!!
Guest PommyKas Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I would be interested to hear the replies to this as am in the same situation and have the same queries! I was operating under the impression that everything will be certified. I am also concerned that what with the festive period, new years and the snow in the UK I wont receive my UK police check in time for when I need to submit my application and am wondering if I will be able to submit it when it arrives even if my application has already been submitted!!
emmaroo Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Hi Yes, you have to get all your copies certified! As far as the stat decs go you don't have to get them witnessed! try and get an Aussie citizen to do one for you! Good luck Emma

But with regards to the stat decs...on form 888 it says "In Australia, statutory declarations must be witnessed by a person prescribed by the Statutory Declarations Act 1959 and Regulations. Any attachments to the Declaration must be certified by a prescribed person." ??? So do we not need a JP to witness or do we? lol god this is so confusing :arghh:
Guest Marcsi Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Ok guys...so, on the last page of the stat dec form, there's a section with a list of jobs/titles of the persons who are authorized to certify the stat dec, if you are in Australia. If yes, it's easy - even a teacher, pharmacist or police officer would do that. You have to certify the copies of your passport, birth certificates, statutory declarations and copies of any official documents. You DON'T need to certify your bank statement copies, phone bills or photos. Really don't. I went through all the 300 and 820 applications, sent them in as scanned copies and they were fine.
MicheleW Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Ordinary photocopies of bank statements, bills, etc which don't have to be certified - you only need to certify official documents such as passports, birth certificates. As far as the stat decs go, they all had to be witnessed as mentioned previously but the list is pretty big so you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding someone to witness them. Neither police clearances or medicals need to be submitted at the time you lodge your visa application. Your CO will request them when they are needed so don't be worried about the Christmas period delaying your application.
Guest peterpan89 Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Thanks guys! I'm having my medical today...and got my police check done last months, so just going to put them in with the application, as we were told it may speed things up.
piglet1 Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 When I went to DIAC for more information (before I lodge my application), they handed me a guide, some sort of checklist and what is required for the defacto visa. It was said on the first page that all supporting documents have to be certified by solicitor/advocate, notary public or comm of oath. So, I certified ALL of my photocopied documents :dull: ... Upon submission, we were assigned a CO on the spot and she went through our documents and requested for more. The additional documents (photocopied) were not certified cos I was really in a rush, seems like no issue with it cos she told me to go for medicals  (in which i did on Monday!). She also returned our letters and photos on the spot. And for the stat dec, all of mine were witnessed (with scanned passport attached and certified), but they were photocopies (they are in Aust, so they send a scanned copy instead. Still waiting for 1more original to come in the mail though... seems like it's LOST!). And those from local friends have no ID attached, just the stat dec. Apparently my CO said, only a minimum of 2 needed to have their IDs attached, the rest will be supporting documents.
