Sydneytina Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Hi, My very good friend is on 485 and the visa is expiring on 3rd Jan. She was short of 5 points because of age and was expecting to pass NAATI to get these extra 5 points. However the NAATI result was out yesterday and she did not pass. Now what are her options? How can she get 1 more year here so she can do a professional year? Please help. Any advice will be of great help.
Guest Nick9 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Professional year can only be done while you are on 485. So I don't think so she has got any other option left besides 457. Now she can't apply for even off shore PR as she will need at least 1 year field related experience to apply off shore PR and that too before 1st July as we all know the point system is going to be changed after that. She can still remain for a while in Australia if she can manage to get couple of months of Tourist visa, and in those 2 months she can try to find some employer who can sponsor her for 457. Though it's difficult, there is nothing wrong in trying hard.
Guest Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Professional year can only be done while you are on 485 Professional year can also be done if you have a bridging visa with permission of study.
Guest Nick9 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Professional year can also be done if you have a bridging visa with permission of study. Yeah. That's true. So in short you need to be either on 485 or on bridging visa while waiting for 485.
Guest sydhere Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Professional Year may not be good. Better to re-sit NAATI as your friend has got experience and expectation. Many options to get extended stay onshore, e.g. tourist visa, bridging visa. It depends on circumstances.
