Guest Guest26012 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Hiya all! Dont post on here a lot but always read on a daily basis. There are lots of pros and cons in the emigration process and its not a black and white process! We came here nearly three years ago! We came on a 457 visa ( me a nurse ) sponsored by my employer. It took hubby 6 weeks to get his first job. We got PR pretty quickly, thanks to my employers! That was a relief as we felt pretty insecure before that! There were lots of ups and downs in the early days! I was homesick, well people sick for a long time! Had to go back to uk, on my own, after being here for a month as my best friend and sis-in-law was diagnosed with terminal cancer! I was there a week and she died 2 weeks after my return to oz. Sad time but glad i went back! We have one child, a daughter in the uk, now 20 years old! Had lots of traumatic times there but all ok at the moment! We had a trip back for a 2 week hol in Aug 2009! It was fine but glad to come home! I guess what im trying to say is it can take a long time to call oz home, everyone is different! Some say give it 2 years others go back after a short time! We were fortunate in that, apart from our daughter, we were not particularly close to family, before we left! OHs parents had both passed away and it was not the pull of family that made me in particular, people sick. Its the loss of familiar things that, to me, was hard to deal with! You find yourself criticising and comparing with the uk, initially! Then somewhere along the line, those feelings disappear and the oz way becomes the norm! Dont get me wrong, there are always things that are not right! We lived in uk for over 40 years so thats inevitable! We have friends, as im sure lots have, that have gone back to the uk, and our friends in particular, are trying to get back here! Thats a huge learning curve that, i guess, some have to go through? Its not bloody easy coming here and starting your lives again, cos thats what it is! But it can be a fab life depending on your expectations! We started from scratch here but now have our own home, 5 mins drive from the beach, enough friends and we are far more relaxed and less stessed! We still have to work hard but didnt expect not to! So good luck to all of you coming here!
