Guest krislton Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Hi guys, This is my first post so G'day! I'm just looking at some advice, I'm off to Oz early march and need to ship my tools over, I have contacted a couple of shipping companies recommended from this froum on a few old posts, but its been around 2 weeks without a reply. Can you recommend any other companies? I know my tools will have to be spotlessly clean to be able to be let into Oz, but there is a 42" wide chest, bottom and top box, around 5 1/2ft and a few other little boxes, do you know roughly how much it would cost to ship? Its also quite important to me so don't want it getting damaged (being my first proper tool box, sad I know lol) I have friends in Port Douglas near Cairns, so will be staying with them until I find work. Thanks in advance, Kris
calNgary Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Hiya Kris We shipped my hubbys tools and chest over with Crown and had no problems or damage what so ever. We originally sent 18 boxes (including the tools) and it was around 600GBP from what i remember. Gary cleaned most of his tools by putting it in a hot engine wash, much easier than cleaning every socket and spanner individually, lol. We locked the tool chest but taped a key to the top incase customs wanted a look. If you have a tall tool chest make sure 2 guys would be able to lift it or the shippers wont take it, we bought a cheappy plastic tool box too and transfered some stuff into that to lower weight. Hope this helps Cal x

calNgary Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 The chest was wrapped up a zillion times in really thick brown paper by the shippers, the plastic chest was just left as is. We then did a share container as we didnt wat to fill one. We had no problems and arrived on time and in tact. Cal x
Guest krislton Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Thanks for the advice. Can you recommend your shipping company for this as I need to arrange pretty soon
calNgary Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Hi we used Crown Relo at Leeds . They do have other depots around England depending on where you are located. Once it touched Aussie soil its Crown this side too so no sub contractors to deal with. Cal x
Guest emasnwy Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Hi CalnGary,I to am a Hgv mechanic, when we take me tools (big snap on box )do you have to make a list of every tool thats going..i`v zillions of gear compressor,9" grinders Drills, mig welder=gasbottle which will have to be emptyed i guess..it will be a nightmare. But gary will tell you its to expencive to buy it all again....crapping myself if any thing gets nicked in transit..have`nt contacted any shipping company yet,crown.every1 raves about them..we`re not far from leeds.will ring them.
calNgary Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Hiya we didnt list everything as in so many sockets, so many spanners etc , we just listed as chest full of tools. We did itemise bigger stuff that obviously didnt fit in his chest like his bench saw, grinder etc. We packed everything into Garys chest or cheap boxes and they just wrapped them up in Brown paper. They did tell us to lock them but fasten /tape a key to the top so if they wanted to unwrap it and take a look they had acces, we did, but when we got it , nothing had been touched. Im not sure you would be able to bring the gas bottles for the Mig even empty. Gary says he is sure you can buy them here to fit. Price wise some stuff isnt to bad, he said see if you can look at Repco on line for prices as you may decide not to bring some of it, if yo0u get no joy, PM me and i will have a search for prices for you over weekend. Cal x
