Been in perth for 18 months now and when we came over we didnt fill a container just shipped a few boxes using PSS removals. We hardly brought anything out with us deciding we would buy new out here but are now regretting that! Anyway, baby number 2 is due in april and all my old baby things are still at my mum and dads house back in the uk, so I am wanting to ship them out. Will probably be only 2/3 boxes - one being the moses basket and then some clothes/toys etc. Just wondering what is the cheapest way of sending them here, would it be to use a removal company like PSS again? They have quoted me 135 pound for the three boxes, is this a good price??

Yes, if that's a door to door price. (don't know what the weight or the cube is)

If you've used the company before and were happy with the service, then £135 is a good price for collection, documentation, forwarding, customs clearance and final delivery.

That is a good price, I know a lot of the excess luggage companies charge around 150gbp for a suitcase.

I have used Sevenseas & Freedom Shipping, I think it was around 70 odd GDP per box... good service... You might have a problem with your Moses Basket if it is of the straw variety..

135GDP does seem a good price...very best wishes with your new one :wubclub:Susie x

siamsuise, that was actually another question i was going to post on here regarding my moses basket - a friend had told me I wouldnt be able to bring it! It is made of maize, any ideas whther this would be allowed into the country or not? Will be devestated if I cant bring it over, my little girl only used it for 3 months it is almost brand new and I love it.

Hi Soph, I think you will find that anything straw (maize) is prohibited. The bill for destruction/fumigation can be quite prohibitive.

I personally wouldnt chance it, but the next time you are having a holiday in the UK, you could perhaps bring it over in a suitcase and declare it at Quarantine.. I generally find they are kinder on a face to face basis than via the parcel/post system. I have brought over wicker baskets using this method and after careful examination been given the all clear.... just a thought.

Hi. I am moving back to Australia from Italy and tomorrow our boxes are being picked up! I also want to send my daughter's wicker Moses basket but was unsure so I have just called the AQIS (customs) office in Australia to ask. They said to send it as wicker or maize is not a problem, but that on the other hand, straw could be a problem (anyone know the difference?). The basket will just have to be inspected for any insects, disease or larvae (as per any other object made with plant material).

Many items are not actually prohibited, but they just need to be inspected to be sure they are not harboring any nasties.

In any case, it's always best to call first if you have any doubts, they are really helpful and friendly. You can find all the AQIS numbers at What can't I take into Australia? - DAFF

Hope this helps!
