Hello all

I am following this forum since Sept 2010, and thanks to everybody to let me know/guide all sort of issues, benefits and others about migration.

I have receive Skill Assessment from Engineers Australia at May,2010 as Electronic Engineer. As per SOL Schedule 3, ASCO to ANZSCO Mapping, i have chosen Telecommunication Network Engineer, to apply for SA State Sponsorship dated 9th Nov 2010, and received positive reply at 24th Nov 2010. Finally applied for Visa 176 to DIAC at Dec 2011.

Now i am bit confused about which priority processing i will lies in, 2 or 3.

As per priority processing docs on 14th July, i met both criteria 2 and 3.

Can anybody please help me to understand.

Hi Scorpio, the answer will hopefully be known in the next couple of weeks.

Currently you are Cat 3. To move to Cat 2 your nominated occupation needs to be on the State Migration Plan for South Australia. At this stage SA and NSW are the only two States not to have revealed their SMPs, which are effectively just a list of the occupations that they wish to have priority processing.

I was sponsored by NSW in October this year so am in hope that they wouldn't have sponsored me if they weren't planning for my occupation to be on their SMP. I'd suggest the same is true for you and SA.

All States are supposed to release their SMPs before the end of 2010 so hopefully there will be some good news for both of us in the next few weeks. All the best with your application.

Hi Scorpio

Welcome to PIO!

I pretty much agree with AustrAnglian.

I am a little confused about this "Finally applied for Visa 176 to DIAC at Dec 2011."

I assume you mean you applied for a 175 Visa Dec 2010 (I'm not sure if you can apply for a 176 now without the SS?)

You are Cat 3 at the moment.

I am not totally sure (as things changed after July 2010) but if you applied after that date I think you have to put in a new application to DIAC as I don't think you can change from a 175 to a 176 anymore.

Hope that makes sense

Hi VickyMel, OP received SS for SA on 24 Nov so it makes sense they applied for a 176 one week later. For the last couple of months SA (and NSW) were/are continuing State Sponsorships in the absence of their SMP (unlike WA or VIC who stopped sponsoring completely until their SMP was released) which is what led to Scorpio's confusion - sponsored in the last few weeks but without knowledge of whether sponsorship is on the SMP. And thx for the reputation. Merry Xmas.

Hi AustrAnglian

Thanks a lot for given me some relief from confusion. SA put one intermediate list of occupation for SS, and advised people to do check in SOL Schedule 3 then apply for State Sponsorship. So it is true now i am in Cat-3, and i have to wait until full list of SMP. Lets hope for the best.

Anyway do you hear from CO, till now? Are you onshore or offshore? I have seen you written "2/8 PCCs now completed". How long time does it take for Cat-2 or Cat-3 visa processing onshore or offshore, do you have any idea, will be very much appreciable.

hi VickyMel

It will be "Finally applied for Visa 176 to DIAC at Dec 2010.", just writing mistake. Sorry for that.

Hi Scorpio, I'm offshore, 176 and Cat 3 so my official timeline is 18-24 months and no CO yet. However, with the release of SMPs by the other States some of the other posters have been getting COs within a matter of weeks or even days from moving onto Cat 2 which is what I'm hoping for once NSW SMP is published.

You are right that SA put out a list of just Cat 3 occupations a couple of months ago, so it is very likely this will form part of their SMP when it is released, but because it is DIAC that processes the visas they will not recognise SA SS for any priority processing until the SMP is officially signed off by both the Minister and SA, which is why you are not yet Cat 2, but are very likely to be once the SMP is published. When DIAC publish a date for SA's SMP on the following page then you can start looking to confirm you are Cat 2.

State Migration Plans

I'm starting to get my PCCs together to be prepared just in case things start to happen quickly in the new year. I'm currently in West Africa and I need PCCs from some other weird and wonderful places (Japan, Arabia, etc) so I'm expecting some of the PCCs to take several months, which is why I'm already working on these. Most people who still live in their home country can organise their PCCs and medicals quite quickly, but I have to plan ahead otherwise I may be keeping my CO waiting when I finally get one. All the best.

Hi AustrAnglian

Thanks for quick descriptive reply. I understood, i was bit confused as PCC required only after CO assigned. I was in West Africa once, spent 11month 20days. What do u think do i need to collect PCC from that country? I know it will be real tough job for me, cause now i am in Asia.

I am just hoping, as i did not spent 1yr whole, i may not required that country's PCC.

Thanks

Hi, I've been advised the PCC cutoff for any country you were resident in is 12 months or more, so 11 months 20 days shouldn't require a PCC. You may want to take photocopies or scans of your first entry and last exit date from the country to prove it was under 12 months in case DIAC ask.

Hi would somebody mind quickly posting a link that explains the category's.. or just briefly explaining how many there are and what they mean... My OH is a Landscape Gardener who has his AQF III qualification & been passed by TRA. We are applying to SA who released their SMP list and we are on it, but I don't understand the cateogories nor do I understand their relevance.. Important I assume, so if somebody could take a few minutes I would greatly appreciate it.
