Guest wardy
Hi everyone hope someone can help. With all the recent and upcoming changes does the same still apply. Once we have validated our visas (not got CO yet) and my 18 year old returns to UK does he still have 5 years in which to return. Friends of ours have just been out to validate pre July 1st because they say that that option reduces to 2 years to return after that date. They have now returned. I thought it was just citizenship criteria that was changing and I am hoping that he has got his wires crossed. Have the citizenship requirements changed yet or is that still in the pipeline. hope someone can clear this up Thanks kaye x
Lynandsean
Hi Kaye Cant help that much with your questions although the bit about your friends validating theirs before July 1st is a bit baffling. Our visa was granted in Apr and our pink slip in our passport clearly gives us the date which we need to validate by and the date by which we have to have moved there by (july 2012) so l would be very surprised if that was changed. My understanding (and it is only that ) is that you are bound by the visa stipulations relative to when your visa was received at the DIMIA office therfore yours would be pre September. I too thought it was only the citizenship bit that was changing which will apply to us as we didnt get out to validate before July 1st (gutted about that as I would quite like to be an assie citizen before the 2012 olympics cos would be sooo embarrassed bout the potential shambles tehe) Joking aside also have no idea if that rule has yet been put in place either! am sure your visa will come through soon now. Was told that if they have asked for your pc's and meds then provided there is nothing wrong there you are in! as they approve all the other bits before asking you to undertake these. (Just hope l've not been told a load of twaddle :embarrassed:) Lyn x
samozsoon
Hi Kaye Yes, once your son has validated his visa he can return home and then will have upto 5 yrs (from pc/meds) to return to Oz. This is what we have all done, and our son (17) will be staying here to finish A-Levels when we all go. Lyn is right, it tells you, on the visa sticker in your passports, what dates you need to be there by. The citizenship laws did change on July 1st and now you have to live in Oz for 4 yrs before you can become a citizen. We validated before July 1st so hopefully we will be able to become citizens after 2 yrs. I'm not sure what your friend is on about, maybe theres some other changes that I dont know about (hope not tho, as thought I'd researched everything with regard to citizenship changes). Pretty sure I'm right about your sons visa though. Sam xx
ali
My understanding is the same as Sam, that you only the citizenship rules had changed. Obviously even if you'd validated before the rule change you will have to fulfil the criteria of length of time you've lived in oz before applying for citizenship. ali
Paul doesn't have to do it before you, you can do it as a family I'm sure Ali
samozsoon
I also think Jo, that all kids under 16 can be included on their parents application for citizenship regardless of how long they've been there. I know this wont apply to Charlie as he'll be over 16 in 2 yrs time, wont he? Just another bit of useful info stored in the dark recesses of my brain:wacko:. Guest wardy
Thanks for the answers guys I didnt think the 5 year rule was changing, but you have confirmed it for me. I think my friend has his wires crossed and was trying to confuse me as well Thanks Kaye x
Guest wardy
No problems Jo you can hijack my thread anytime, you can almost guarantee that when one person asks a question then it will make you think of another. Kaye x
