I've been living onshore for 15 months. I'm told the processing times are 6-8 months. Does anyone have any experience with this process? Did it really take that long? Someone wrote recently that it took just six weeks to get theirs and others have said it took months. Can anyone tell me, what happens at that point? Do they want more proof of the relationship etc? Also I have seen somewhere online that the 100 only gives you 5 years. After living in Australia for 4 years, that is assuming you are here for most of that time, you become eligible to apply for citizenship. I'm half-way through the 2 year provisional myself so I don't know the answer to your other question except to say that they will want to know that your relationship is still ongoing so I'm continuing to save everything just in case. I'm assuming that there will be more Stat Decs to write at the very least. This visa allows you to get permanent residency of Australia after 2 years by proof of genuine and continuing relationship with your partner. During the initial 2 years of temporary visa (Subclass 309) you can: Live and work in Australia until the decision is made regarding your permanent visa Study in Australia at school or university (No 20 hour work limitation but cannot get access to Government funding for your study) May receive subsidized healthcare through Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme Get an Australian Citizenship after 4 years of stay in Australia. May I just say that your PR has already been paid for in your initial application fee so dont worry about money. Regarding your time frame, I would have thought hopefully it wouldnt have been too long for you, but you really do need immediate assistance regarding the abuse and also to obtain your legal rights. Immigration have to satisfy themselves that you are both in an on going and genuine relationship, and usually on the 2nd stage you would have been asked to submit further proof. If your husband is threatening to go to DIAC (Immigration) then I think it is better to seek this advice before he carries out this threat. I cannot anticipate when your PR will be granted, but to seek good advice could well be in your best interest for your future safe being. Guest siamsusie Posted July 23, 2011 Share Posted July 23, 2011 At the end of your 2 year period, you should have been contacted by DIAC for further information example.. 2 witness statements to confirm that your marriage is genuine and maybe one or two other pieces of evidence. If they have not contacted you, then you must call them for the forms to be sent out. Confirm that they have the correct address.
