main applicant on student visa going back to UK - what about the dependent?

Okay so a good mate's wife has decided she's had enough and is going back to the UK with their 2 year old. No courses completed - no degrees conferred. What are the options for my mate if he wants to stay on? How long does he have ??

unless he is qualified and assessed for migration purposes in his own right, i dont believe he has any right to stay, if hes the partner and shes the main student visa holder he must leave when she does, i may be wrong but sure someone with more knowledge will answer

Your mate has to apply for a new student visa with him as the principal applicant if he wants to stay. He cannot stay in Australia if his wife leaves. He would be breaching his visa and could be barred from entering Australia for a period of 3 years.
