Guest FREDF
Hi Hopefully this is just another scare story. We have just been told that you must not visit Oz while you are in the process of applying for a visa. This dosent seem right ??? We have submitted the application - paid for it but not had an acknowledgement yet. We are booked (all 6) to leave for 3 weeks 31st July for a holiday/fact find. Surely you are able to enter on a tourist visa while they consider your application? HELP Thanks
Lynandsean
We went for a factfinding trip after our visa was submitted. Agent said to us that only stipulation is that you must not be in Oz when visa is granted. We had had an acknowledgement but no request for meds or police checks when we went (cos it wouldnt have been granted before they were done anyway) so he said we were fine to go. We went on a tourist visa which we got online immediately. Sounds like you are in same situation/timeline as we were (ours was on a 136 skilled btw) Lyn x
Guest FREDF
Thank you Thank you We have had a bit of a rough week and finding that out at this late stage after spending all that money would have sent us both spinning into manic depression. We have the tourist visa's sorted so phew. Thanks again for the quick reply.

Guest FREDF
By the way When do you actually leave? I was born in Melborne so all the Visa stuff is for my partner. I notice you are looking to go to the Gold Coast? Most of my family are now in QLD so we are going to be looking between GC and Brisbane or just above. We only applied for the visa in April so hopefully will have it sorted by the end of the year. I want to go home!!!! Been here 29 years now - need my time off for good behaviour. I have family on the Gold Coast if you need any information etc let me know. cheers
Guest LyndaG
Hi We are travelling to Oz in September on a holiday visa and have sent our 136 application off in May. Our agent said we would be fine but the visa would not be granted untill we left Australia or if it was granted before it would cancel our holiday visa and we would be entering australia to validate our visa, this was if for some reason everything suddenly speeded up but no we still await acknowledgement so enjoy your hoilday we cant wait!!! Hope this makes sense Lynda

Planning to go back Oct for final recce - maybe line up rental for Jan, job hunt if possible and check out areas in general, son also auditioning for Australian Dance Perf Inst. Need somewhere within reasonable travelling distance of Burleigh Head, TAFE at Loganlea and Uni campus at Southport. Robina and Reedy Creek look good but unsure on distances. Think after 29 years you have definately served your sentence :swoon: and you should be allowed to go home now  Oz is such a beautiful place and we are soooooooo looking forward to moving there. ali
Once your visa is granted you can't apply for a holiday visa as it will cancel out your migration visa (I'm led to believe), Gollywobbler replied to a similar thread once - do a search as it was really informative. Ali I'm afraid I was being lazy and quoting JAJ from British Expats, but this IS the sort of info he knows! I'd be very surprised if he was wrong about this. Fred, where is your Partner's visa application being dealt with? As I understand it, the spouse/de facto type visas are normally processed pretty quickly. Have you told them about your plans for a visit to Oz? If not, then doing so mught help to hurry thinks up. Cheers Gill
Guest FREDF
Hi Gollywobbler We are not going for a partners Visa yet. Applied for the full 136 for him. If this dosent work we will have enough history to go for a partner visa. So all should be well for the holiday. Wont get excited til I am on the plane and can believe I am really going home. Guest FREDF
Hi Lyn Wow the names bring back memories. We lived in a rented house on Reedy Creek Station 29 years ago. It was a large cattle station at that time. My sister tells me it is a bit different now. I will have more of an idea how different when we get back end of August. We moved from there to Burleigh Heads, I worked in a small real estate office in Surfers Paradise - which was a reasonable bus ride away. There were also only about 3 high rise buildings at the time!! My sister is a student at Griffith Uni (I think) - is there any specific info you need? cheers
