 Hi there.

As the standards in the UK education systems falls yet again and until schooling will start for our kids in Aus in November, I have decided to rebel!!!

Is there anyone out there who has or does or is planning to Homeschool for any time???

I am starting my daughter (just for a short time) before we arrive in Aus and using an Aus Home school curriculum. Just wondered if anyone had any experience with it.

It was not really how I had planned to spend my last few months here - but hey ho - we know this is the best thing for her and we no longer feel that she benefits in any way from the current system - so lets give it a try.

Any advice would be great though. Thanks.

Blessings, Sarah.

I know someone who is going to do it here in the uk with her son when he goes into year 2 in September. She wreckons he has learnt nothing in the last 2 years.

I am sending my son back for 3 weeks in September before we go mainly to keep him out of my hair while we sort out the shipping and last minute stuff. Also if I had kept him off he would have had almost 3 months off before he started a school in OZ and then broke up again the beginning of December for their summe holidays. There is no way he would want to go to a new school after having so much time off, he will repeat the end of year 1 when we get there and then start year 2 in February 2008.

I am interested in finding out where you got the Aus school curriculum from? I have been looking on the net and as yet found nothing. Is it similar to the UK one?

Any help appreciated regarding the school curriculum.

Best of luck with your teaching.

Sarah

I am using a lot of things form the Homeschooling Australia suppliers. Homeschooling Supplies (Aust.) Online Store and Education Supplier. In particular I have ordered a lot of the social studies workbooks. These cover a lot of the topics on Australia that my kids won't have ever done and I thought it would be nice for them to know about. As well as teaching her the core Maths, English and Science topics, we are starting on "The Australian Aborigne" and "Aborigine and the White man" along with "Australian Geography"; "Convicts" and "Discovering Australia". She will also be doing things new to her like cursive writing which we believe they encourage in Victoria. For Artwork we are going to be looking at Aborigine drawings and painting and trying out a few of these ourselves.... We hope this will just give her a little insight into her New World.

Hope all goes well for you. I'll keep you posted and probably by the 2nd week (bear in mind the packers will be here and I will have nothing left - but living out of suitcases for 4 more weeks) I will be going mad!!!

Blessings, Sarah.

we bouhght some australian childrens books when we came on our reckie so our kids would be familiar with the stories and characters oz kids grow up with. in NSW there is the' premiers reading challenge ' which encourages primary age students to read books on a book list.which is categorised by age groups and includes a lot of indiginous stories.
