HELP!!!! How do I enjoy life in Australia on a budget????

Recommended Posts

It seems there are people out there that think Australia is expensive and there is no other way but to put up and shut up. Is this right? Are all new migrants in for a life of being forced to live on the breadline or is there another way?

PLEASE HELP.......

So what tips have you found to make life in Australia a little more enjoyable and saving a few dollars in the process.

I’m not just talking about food shopping, but going out, buying products eg... cars, insurance, phone deals etc. Have you found any good web sites that offer good deals? When is the best time for sales etc, etc, etc.

Does your area have good markets, auctions, or is E-bay, garage sales the way to go?

I’m sure with some handy tips we can show there is a cheaper side to Australia

Cheers

Geoffrey

-Once youve been here a while you get to know where to shop and when, prices vary suburb to suburb.

-You soon learn that most stores have sales every other week, so wait for one instead of paying full price.

-There is alot to do for little money, trips to the beach, a walk in the forest, 4wdriving, visting one of the million fab parks. Life doesnt have to revolve around theme parks.

- You can get some fab stuff second hand, its worth a look even if its something your not used to doing.

- Take note what days fuel is cheaper ,its weird at first as it can change price daily.

- Get used to buying food stuff in bulk where possible, there are some good savings to be had.

All in all enjoy shopping around, use it as an excuse to explore and discover new areas and check out new things, you can be pleasently surprised.

If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place...

If you get a chance, take it, If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy they just said it would be worth it...

Australia does seem more expensive but I then again earn way more money in Australia than I did in the UK.

Its simple rule cut your cloth to suit... and try to get a better paying job.

Gary has done work for a few older couples who live on their boats just off the Gold Coast. They have little tinnies and work on the coast, from what the impression Gary has got they are on a good thing. You had better be making sure you build your boat big enough to live on,lol

Socialising ... we're not offended when we have to take our own booze and a plate to friends houses ... so no major expenses when it's your turn to play host as everyone reciprocates

I just want PIO to be a happy place where people are nice to each other and unicorns poop rainbows

Thats an Australian custom, bring your own booze and meat for the Barbie. Good custom I say.

Save all the deals which you get on shopping dockets. I am useless at this sort of thing but my best friend is a whiz.

Read the junk mail and the local advertising rags that come out every week.

Read the notices on the board at the supermarket.

Join freecycle web site.

Op shopping is fun.

Take advantage of free concerts in the park in Melbourne in summer.

Shop late in the day at the market just before it closes and you get cheap meat etc.

Buy fruit and veg from the farmers market or direct from farms. Ops shops for clothes, furniture etc. Fish and chips for take aways! And of course, and I would say this but make sure you don't pay too much tax - its like throwing money away!
