Skulking......

Hey

Since i got back from my most recent trip to Oz (May), i have to admit I've been skulking around just getting bits of info from here to aid mine and my other halfs decision to go to Oz!!! SO this week we made that decision!!! Got Visa Bureau on the case (thanks to those people who suggested this company to others on this site!) and so far have been so helpful. We are looking to head over on a Skilled independent, my husband is a Mechanical engineer but is going over on the basic motor mechanic, I'm a project manager but I'm not really bothered what i end up doing! We are looking at the Newcastle area - close enough but far enough away from Sydney (if that makes sense!)

Anyhoo just thought i would introduce myself to say hi! off to play golf now.......

Welcome::yes:

We're with VB, too, who so far have kept us very organized & on track. It seems to us that the quieter & more boring your life, to this point, the easier it will be to comply with all the demands & hoop-jumping entailed in your Visa Ap. If you've done much traveling, worked abroad, have step-kids, etc., finding all the supporting documentation to prove everything could take ages!

It took about 4 weeks for the Aussies to approve OH's TRA, he's electronic instrument tech (according to them!) and then submitted Visa 136 a couple weeks later. We know they have taken the money, so are awaiting the appointment of a Case Officer, which I hope should be by end of July, but who knows - patience is a definite virtue through-out this process.

Please be warned: read all paperwork/forms like an Exam! They say things like - complete EVERY QUESTION which means you can't just ignore them or answer with a dash - if it's not relevant to you, you have to say that!! Ensure you have properly certified copies of all your supporting documentation, which means a solicitor signing & numbering each page & using the appropriate official stamps - you will need copies for the TRA, many of the same ones for the Visa application as well the same again once you get to OZ & start looking for a job. You'll find it cheaper & more efficient to do it in a oner - the fewer documents you have, the cheaper & quicker this process will be.

All the best with everything & keep us all informed - every little tidbit helps someone,

Welcome on Board,

Herbster

Hi Guys

Just registered and wanted to say hi. Can't believe how many people use this website, it's fantastic and so good to hear of people like us making our journey over to Australia!

We too are using the Visa Bureau who I have to say have been an excellent service and full of very important information. My husband is an Electrician so we were advised to apply on the skilled visa and have just passed the TRA application and are in the process of sub-mitting our DIMA application which involves more forms to be completed and certified coppies of all the references etc that were submitted to the TRA. The forms are very demanding, but bare with it as you do become use to basically telling them everything about you and your immediate family!

Our aim is to go a little North of Newcastle to a place called Port Macquarie. We first visited the country in 2000 for 6 months travelling and my husband decided form there on that he wanted to return there to live. A few years on... we had a little girl, Beth and then in 2005 we returned to the area and introduced her to a few friends that we made during our first stay and got married out there (without telling anyone from back home)! When we got home we more or less decided that we should give it a go and started the ball rolling with the Visa Bureau late Summer of 2006 and here we are now!

Look forward to chatting again soon:wubclub:

Welcome Y'All:

Hope all goes smoothly with your application, it does get to be something of an ordeal! However, I'm sure you'll find loads of great advice for all sorts of things on the many forums @ PIO, which will probably ease the process along - and I bet you have loads of good info to share with us all too! Cos many of us have not visited the land of our dreams!

Cheers,

Hi Helz

Welcome to the site and glad you have come out of the skulking closet....we're quite a friendly bunch!!!!

I've been in Sydney for about 10 months now and loving it so if you want to ask any questions feel free.....I'm not so far out as you are planning on going as we're only about a 15 minute drive into the City but it's far enough away to not feel like you are on top of it but near enough when you want to go in! Coming from just outside London we are used to City life so it suits us just fine.....

Good luck with all your plans and keep us posted...

Thanks

Our agent is Sammy Naghi, we don't speak very often but have communication via email. I'm sure we will be in more contact when the DIMA application is submitted.

Does anyone know how long it takes before they recommend having the medicals? Any idea what medicals will be carried out in total, more particularly for our little girl who is nearly 3?

Greetings All!:policeman:

Over a fortnight ago the Ozzies took our money for the 136 Visa App, so awaiting a case officer. However, partner who lived/wrkd abroad needed PC from Germany. We paid £5 to send it tracked, but the post office lost track of it, for it was nowhere to be seen over a week after mailing, so OH sent out another request by regular 50p mail!!!

However, with true German efficiency the original found it's destination, was reviewed, processed & mailed by German police within 24 hrs; taking less time for them to process & return it to us than it took for registered mail to get it there! Amazing!

Unfortunately, we understand it takes 6+ weeks for UK police checks, but are loathe to organize them as the Visa will commence with the earliest date of those PC's.... And this process could take ages yet...

We're with Excellent Visa Bureau too, & just try to be verrrrrrry patient - not always easy - it seems to take over one's whole life! Mad World!
