Guest fairycakes
Hi, Just joined up, thinking of applying for a visa and ideally would love to go to Perth. However we have been told our best option is to be state sponsored but that would mean living and working in Mandurah as this is a designated area. This is fine but we have no idea what it's like workwise there and wonder if anyone out there can help us with some info. Mark is a Pre Press mac operator for the print trade and has worked in all aspects of print for over 20 years. We have two children aged 8 and 5. We will probably go ahead and apply anyway, life is too short for regrets, but we are a little concerned at the job prospects out there. Perth is an easy commute but the terms of the visa would be that he has to work at least a year in Mandurah. If anyone has any info for us that would be fantastic, Thanks very much, Elly

We love it when we visit and may well set up there when we return next year. As for jobs in the print trade there are a number of local newspapers in the area that may be worth contacting to find out more info - try emailing MandurahCoastalTimes@communitynews.com.au and see if they can help or put you onto someone that can. Go for it Mandurah is a fantastic place to live.
kevin'n'dawn
Surely if your state sponsored you can go anywhere in WA and not just Mandurah,we've got an application in that needs sponsorship from them and we'll be going to Bunbury. :skeptical:
Guest fairycakes
Thanks for all your reponses, we shall try the Mandurah Coastal Times and a few other newspapers, good idea. I use an Apple Mac in the print trade, Prepress Graphics & prepraing artwork for print, that is where my skills lie but I'm actually prepared to do any kind of work if we make it to Aus, & apparently I can. It's strange but we would be State sponsored by South Australia but could only live & work in Mandurah or Bunbury. Keep the positive comment coming. Mark I don't understand.....how can you be sponsored by the State of South Australia but told you have to be in Mandurah or Bunbury. They are in Western Australia. There are two types of sponsorship, one is State sponsorship which I believe means you can live and work anywhere within Western Australia and the other one is Regional Sponsorship which means you need to be in a region outside of Perth metro. I think Mandurah is in the Peel region. I have just applied for State Sponsorship for WA and am currently awaiting a response. Mandy
