Guest itskaren
We are just starting to build a house in Lilydale (Eastern surburbs) of Melbourne. We would really like to move back to the UK by 2012. We will have a 5 bedroomed house right next to a lake. I was reading somewhere in the USA that people just 'house swap'' sometimes when emigrating. The value of the house would be around 1 million AUD (approx 600k pounds). I wanted to put out the 'feelers' to see if anyone had a house around about the same value that would be interested in a swap? I don't think i could go through getting rid of stuff again and starting over. I am a nurse so would like to live in communiting distance to a hospital. My husband is a business analysist so would need to be communting distance to a city. We are pretty flexible on where we would like to live. Just a thought! ....... harrisj67
We had decided that the family would up-sticks from Melbourne and return to the UK, but after much deliberation, we have started to sway towards a long stay in the UK to see how we feel and not lose all ties with Australia; a country we love. The thought of renting out our 5 year old home in Mordialloc, is okay, but comparing what we'd get for the same money in the UK is a little scary. The idea of house swapping and using this forum, came to mind...I was beaten! Our house is a 3/4 bedroom house 20 minutes walk from the beach, on a pleasant estate and a good train link to Melbourne. We're thinking of returning to the UK some time later next year. I too will be watching this thread with interest!
Jibbah24
Morning all.... This is certainly something that we have considered looking into a little further. It's a long shot but one should consider all options. We've got our house on the market and things are obviously very quiet so unlikely to sell by the end of the year when we are looking at moving to Melbourne. We are thinking of looking into the option of renting it out but it's difficult because on one hand it's your 'home' and not just a house, but on the other hand....it's just bricks and mortar!! Aaaaaaggghhh....!! Am up to my eye balls at the moment with planning and work and the like but will watch this thread and see how things develop. There are sites that deal with long term swaps so it might be worth those of you who are serious spending a little time searching the web for house swap (not wife swap....that's something altogether different!!) We live in North Wales and commuting distance to Chester, Liverpool and Manchester so who knows.....alternatively you could just come back and buy it!! ;-) 6 bedroom detached house for sale in Bwlch Y Gwynt Road, Llysfaen, Colwyn Bay LL29, LL29 Cheers S
Guest RHalsey
We live in Suffolk, Uk, sbout 1 and half our from London by car or slightly less by train. We live in a 4 bedrrom spacious converted barnand are looking to move to Melbourne in Dec 2011/ Jan 2012 as my husband has a 1 year post at ST Vincent's hospital in Melbourne. Just thought house swopping might be the least expensive way of renting somewhere furnished for a year....?
Guest sheffieldfamily
Are you still looking for a swap or are you sorted? We are coming to Melbourne in July/august. We have a five bed detached house with large garden in a friendly village on the north west of Sheffield. The house is well insulated and has solar panels so fuel bills are low. Local schools are excellent. Brilliant transport links into central Sheffield and on the edge of the beautiful peak district for walking/climbing/cycling etc. 5 hospitals in sheffield - 2 general and 3 specialist - cancer, dental and children's if you are looking for nursing jobs and 2 universities. Guest Organic
Same boat! A year ago we moved from London to Melbourne, we kept out beloved 3 bedroom house in (the now Royal Borough of) Greenwich. It's empty at the moment while an estate agent "tries" to find a tenant. We plan to move back one day, eventually, but things are going great here. I thought it would be great to find someone in Melbourne who was moving back to the UK who wanted to do something similar - a long term but not permanent swap. We're currently renting, and our lease is just coming up to expiry. Feels like throwing money down the toilet paying rent while we have an empty house in London! Good to see likeminded people gathering on this thread. Karen, or anyone who might be interested, feel free to send me a message!
calNgary
Can i point out this thread is around 2 years old and i dont think these members really post anymore. I would suggest starting a new thread and see what response you get. I will close this one so things arent getting confusing. Cal x
