Ielts disaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My name is Robert, and I am an idiot.

My wife has her Ielts test tomorrow in Bristol so she can work as a nurse when we arrive in Melbourne in 2 months.

We have just received our visas. Today I sent our passports to London to be stamped. Tomorrow she has her test and needs to take her passport as ID (nothing else will do).

Surely this is the most stupid thing anyone has ever done on here????

Has anyone managed to sit the test without a passport? I wondered if she could sit it and then take the passport in next week? But these people are generally very formal and official. I have tried to get the passports back from Royal Mail, and although they know where they are (8 miles away( it is illegal for me to collect them!!)

It looks like another £100+ fee and a new date. Presumably she can sit the test in Australia?:elvis:

Applicants who have completed their secondary education as well as a nursing or midwifery program, taught and assessed in English.

If an applicant is able to provide sufficient evidence that they have completed:

their secondary education taught and assessed in English to the requisite level required for entry into a nursing or midwifery program AND

 a nursing or midwifery program taught and assessed in English

then the applicant is not required to undertake a test of English language

I hope it's not too late. I guess it depends on the testing centre and your ID alternatives. I filled the ielts form with an expired passport, but on the day of the test I used another official photo ID and had no problems at all. Before the test I talked with three different people from the local British Council office which was in charge of administering the test and after a little confusion, they told me it was ok.

Note that I'm a national of the place where the test is being performed and my ID was issued by the federal government. In the application form there's two options for photo ID: national identity card and passport, I think the only case where the passport is "obligatory" is when a foreigner to the test centre takes the test. In any case, notify the ielts test centre of your predicament in a very polite way, they may make an exception if you have some other form of valid ID.

Howdy,

when I sat the test back in April one of the other testtakers also forgot his passport but had his national ID-card with him instead. Don't know if you've got this type of document in the UK. However, the IELTS-lady made a photocopy of this ID-card and accepted it.

I think it's a little bit up to the IELTS-guys how they handle this. The webpage of the British-Council clearly states that you are not allowed to take the test when you don't have the documents with you but sometimes they seem to have a heart.

God luck for your wife

Uli

I dont wanna pee on your fireworks but when I took my test a few weeks ago, there was another lady who forgotten her passport and they wouldnt let her sit the test, she argued the toss but they ended up escorting her off the premises because she refused to leave. I guess its up to individual test centres?!

Anyway the new AHPRA guidelines state nurses no longer need to sit this dreadful test if they are English educated! Hooooray about time
