So DIAC may be working on the ASCO -79 code mapping issue. I was hoping for it, but stopped after I realised that plenty of -79 guys PAID for another ACS assessment and they won't be happy to find out it was not neccessary.

As for that Helen lady of ACS - I emailed her a couple of times and each time she was completely useless. And she's in charge there... DIAC wasn't better either - I asked them about -79 and as a response I got copy-paste info about proccesssing priorities to be changed and as an answer two dead links (from what I saw they lead to DIAC website anyway, so there were no answers to MY questions). Also they proudly marked that they successfully answered, as they must have some sort of metrics and quality control. They're so good! :skeptical:

>> because of SA application we don't really want to lose our ASCO -79 /ANZSCO mapped -99 code.

Lenore

You don't loose your previous assessment by getting a new one. If you file for a new assessment, (Not review) then you can keep both codes. I know a friend who has communicated with ACS on this.

I guess they would be happy if they find their old application will receive priority... it has to be better than being in category 4. If they have lodged a new application, then it's money wasted ... let's hope DIAC will do something about giving a refund to applications that are withdrawn and have not commenced processing ... I guess the application pipeline could be reduced significantly if they allow withdrawal with refund. I am sure many many people have multiple applications in the pipeline.

That was exactly the case with me. I sent out several emails to both DIAC and ACS and they responded with the standard priority processing arrangements and links. I even sent an email to Chris Evans a while back (with the issue regarding ICT recent grads), a member of his staff replied with the same standard priority processing information.

Finally, someone has got a different response, and I am very hopeful. Let's keep everything crossed!

Hi Peter,

I need to clarify something regarding this statement:

"... or apply for a new skills assessment if the result was issued before 1 May 2010. If the latter, the new application will be based on the current 1 July 2010 ACS guidelines."

I got my skills assessed in April 2009 as 2231-79, so I fall in the category mentioned in the statement above. I lodged my 175 visa application in June 2009. I am a programmer by profession. Can I apply for a new ACS skills assessment now and append it to my existing visa application, or is this re-assessment only for those who have done their skills assessment but have not yet applied for a visa?

Appreciate if you could shed some light on this.

Thanks.

I got this email from DIAC today. Other people have got similar response. It's good news for people with specialisations!

Dear *****,

Thank you for your email in relation to your visa application under Australia's General Skilled Migration program.

The advice is not to get a skills assessmnet in a SOL - Schedule 3. The advice is - Applicants with specialisations should contact ACS regarding their circumstances.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship acknowledges that some pre-1 July 2010 ?nec? Skills Assessments with specialisations assessed under ASCO Code 2231-79 do not map directly to ANZSCO coded occupations. Applicants with specialisations should contact ACS regarding their circumstances. If provided with an ANZSCO Skills Assessment from ACS, please send it to the department with a completed Form 1023 Notification of Incorrect Answer(s) requesting your occupation code be changed to ANZSCO. The department will then determine which priority group your occupation is included in and process accordingly.

Please send these documents by email to: adelaide.gsm.documents@immi.gov.au

Yours sincerely,

You received this answer in response to a query raised by you or this is simply email by your CO?

This was in response to a query. I do not have a CO yet. I am in Cat 4.

I contacted ACS and they want me to send in a new application with all the supporting documents. I have two positive skills assessments from them, but they want all documents again. They did not offer any consultation at all, just said apply again.

I guess one good thing is anyone could apply to ACS for reassessment in SOL 3, i.e, not only the ones with specialisation (as indicated by the email from DIAC) and benefit from this new provision.

yes and if they allow us to change the code to AnzSCO a large number of those previously classified (2231-79 ICT recent graduate) would move into category 3. And since many of these folks applied a long time ago they will all move to the front of the category 3 queue too (remember it is 18 months for cat 3 processing). I estimate there to be atleast 3 thousand folks sitting with the (2231-79 ICT recent graduate) ASCO code atm..

I don't know your status and the email you quoted seems out of context, so I'm a bit confused:

I understand you haven't lodged for a visa yet and couldn't apply for free ACS ANZSCO based reassessment (or they mapped you thoughtlessly to a new -99 NEC code?)?

Is this option they proposed in that email free? So you just wrote to ACS quoting DIACs response? I think if they do free "corrections" to -79 they should announce it instead of taking money for new assessments.

What about the Form 1023 - it'a DIACs form and not ACSs, isn't it ? Isn't it for those who already lodged for Visas?

In general - how do you understand the possibility of correction of -79 mapping for those who have already lodged for visa and those who haven't?

Skyrocket - I know it means longer wait, but I really don't mind those people move back to cat 3. Cat 4 for them was a joke, as they lodged as CSL applicants.

I applied for 175 in Dec 2009 as ICT recent grad, met 1 year work experience in March 2010 and applied for the new skills assessment with specialisation in java in May 2010. In July 2010, they sent me the new assessment just after the change of priority processing so I missed out on CSL processing. Since then I have been contacting various people to get this mess sorted out without much effect. I contacted various people in ACS, DIAC and even Chris Evans, Julia Gillard and Tony Abbot etc as well, all the people listed in MIA's election petition. I had been receiving the same garbage about Minister having the right to set priority processing directives, which no one could interfere with. Finally, someone in this forum posted a positive email from DIAC saying that DIAC is seeking recommendation from ACS regarding comp. prof.s nec with specialisation and another one saying that DIAC recommended us to get reassessment in SOL 3. I contacted DIAC and that was the email they sent me.

My understanding is that reassessment from ACS is not free. They asked me to apply for a new assessment and I paid the full fee. I think as far as ACS is concerned, they are not concerned about whether you had been previously assessed as having specialisation. They will do a fresh assessment according to the PIM3 guidelines, so I think old ICT grads also have a good chance of getting one of the new codes based on their degree (just like the new grads).

From DIAC's point of view, after we receive the new assessment, we have to email it to them along with the form 1023 and they will decide which priority our application will receive. And I think this applies to pre July 2010 applications only (as stated in the email). You should seek clarification from DIAC for your case.

Thank you! It does look like your case is complicated, but at least there is something that can be done! I wish you good luck then!

Thanks, Lenore! I hope DIAC don't go back on their word this time.
