2231-79 Computing Professional (ICT Recent Graduate) and the new priority

At least ACS is still keeping Group C assessment, which is essentially for the recent grads. The question is which ANZCO code will they give to those Group C applicants.

one of my mates who just passed out was told by her migration lawyer to put developer programmer as the occupation coz she had quite a few programming papers in her masters.... so they can pretty much pick up any occupation they feel like... if they did more programming papers they would take developer programmer, if they did more IT management related papers they would take business analyst... so easy!!! while the rest of us continue to languish at the bottom of the food chain....

Well I just had a chat with the immigration office 5 minutes back and what they said to me regarding my application is not satisfactory.. I applied for 885 independent visa in october , 2008 and I was a ICT graduate. .. My degree was in computer science ... BUt just now they told me as there is a change in priority processing, ICT graduate who applied before have to wait untill 2012.. I can quote his statement .. This is what he said " Yes that what I am saying pretty much, If you have waited for 2 years , you have to wait for another 2 years" which is like 2012..

Are these people has gone mad on this, they are just treating as a puppets, first they ask us to pay full fees for the application at the time of lodgement and even if you met all the requirements at the time of application, and after after two year wait they say wait 2 more year...

I m losing my hope in this now :(

The new automatic response from brisbane processing centre just shattered all my hope that I have left... If anyone here wants to make a formal complaint I'm in!

Skyrocket: lucky for your friend... but I'm really disappointed at DIAC! They are really unfair to the existing ICT recent graduates applicant. What is their reason to put us on the pipeline? Heck even accounting that have a lot of applicants still get priority 3. If they think there's too many applicants nomination IT occupations, why don't they just cut it for now. Access the old applicants first before adding more IT applicants into the pile.. I wonder if DIAC can give me logical answer for this.

Btw.. for Computer Professionals with specialisation. I've been reading that DIAC still grants PR to some even after this priority processing. But they already have CO beforehand.. so oh well.. I guess no CO no hope..

They wont process old applicant because we are useless to them, they want more money so they will keep accepting new application and keep ignoring all the existing old applicant by introducing these ridiculous changes every now n then....

I am also in if we group together and make a formal complaint to respective department.

Cheers!

If I was you, I would be seriously having a go at that person who told me that. The DIAC website clearly says in black and white "2 years from date of lodgement" for non-CSL applicants. These guys at DIAC as just like IT helpdesk staff, just there to answer phone calls and I bet he has got absolutely no freaking clue on what's going on with the processing. I have read in other forums where the guys in DIAC have no idea and just told the applicant to wait till the changes are posted on the website as they are unsure of the processing timelines.

Hi,

It is obviously negligence on Minister to omit 2231-79 with specialised category. How are the people classified as 2231-79 (.net) any qualitatively inferior to those who will get other ANZSCO code for doing exact same thing.

I'm interested in voicing our concern to relavent authorities. Who shall we be writing to? Would it be better to gather a sizable people and send a letter with signature of those people?

I have contacted immi and ACS today using phone and online enquiry form.

The following are the links:

IMMI:General Skilled Migration Post-Lodgement Enquiry Form

ACS:ACS (Australian Computer Society) - Membership, Professionalism and Leadership for ICT Professionals and the ICT Community

IMMI Phone No to provide feedback (Only for feedback):133177

Pls do something for our right.

Things are looking pretty bad at this time but Australia couldn't be this bad. Talk to any average Australian about our situation and they will find it extremely appalling how they are treating us. Let's not lose our hope. Today I wrote to DIAC. Tomorrow I will be writing to Minister Evans, ACS and Skills Australia.

Together we can bring the change. We just have to voice our opinion in a professional and rational manner.

Indeed you might have a point there. We've aleady paid up... if they stop accepting new applications and start giving us PR instead it would mean that the ICT graduates coming out now would either have to go the TR route or go back home... bad publicity for the already under stress higher educational industry. Moreover they might be thinking that since we've been waiting so long (often more than a year) and many of us in this category do not work in our chosen field (due to the general reluctance of employers to hire people on bridging visas) that we are now somehow rendered obsolete. Fresh ICT graduates do not have this problem since they would be getting their PR's a lot sooner, probably in less than a year, and thus be able to enter the IT job market a lot sooner...

Your post does make sense. The reason can be as simple as they want more money. In fact I can imagine them thinking like that. Moreover, maybe they thought since we are old IT graduates so our knowledge isn't that up to date anymore. Even tho I got a job already, a lot of my future plans seem like have to be put put on hold for now. My boyfriend and I will get married next year, then we plan to buy a house... Then this stupid thing happens! As if buying house, I'll be buying everything online ceh. Now our state of mind "spend less money as we can in Australia, then if they kick us we have money to start elsewhere". I've been paying tax and contribute to the economy, it seems like it's nothing to them.

"

Great news from DIAC for part of onshore applicants who are in new SOL

“The good news is that all Accountants with Competent English are now in priority group 3, as are all motor mechanics. For the team here it means that we have a lot of applications going back to July 2008 that we can now begin processing in priority group 3. We would like to extend the offer of decision ready processing, with signed checklists, for all those applications previously lodged that can now be processed.

Wayne Riddle, the new Assistant Director of GSM, Brisbane, is prepared to accept applications for decision ready processing where documents may have previously been emailed in, so long as any future documents are scanned and uploaded to e-visa, i.e. new health and character or other outstanding requirements.

The process will be the same i.e. once the application is decision ready, and it falls within priority group 2 or 3 above, send a signed Decision Ready Checklist to the Brisbane Agents mailbox and we will allocate the application within 48 hours of receipt of the checklist. I am attaching new decision ready checklists to this email for 487, 885 and 886 applications.”"

I quote this from another post.....

Can we ask any agent's if they have recieved such information??

If so, It's unfair for people like us who applied in 2008 as ICT Recent graduates, but are employed in the ICT industry now!!!

Can we get DIAC to check on this???

What about the shadow minister Scott Morrison (scott.morrison.mp@aph.gov.au)? I think that might be a good idea too.

Thanks for the information guys. I will write to them, ombudsman and also ACS today. I hope it does make a difference. At the very least, I can sleep at night knowing I have done something.

I actually don't mind if they just ask us to make a new skill assessment just like the new IT graduates (with the work experience exemption off course) @_@

Hi Guys,

I just got of the phone with DIAC, and the guy has said that ICT Recent Grduates of 2008 in the NEC category will be considered in the priority 4. He also said that we should give them a call back in 4 weeks if we would like to know how long will it take for our applications to be finalised. They aren't able to provide any sort of estimate as of now.

I too had applied back in Aug 2008 under ICT Recent Graduate ( nec ) category and I have been working as a developer for the past 3 years. Its so unfair to us that we still aren't good enough with our current skills for the immigration department.

As mentioned above, I am definitely in for an effort to make a common complaint on this.

Its a total outrage !

Regards

Manish

In a doomsday scenario where they refuse to do anything to rectify the situation, what are the possible alternatives? Live with Bridging Visa A for another couple of years, get 2 years experience and go for another 175 application?

I'm also considering the same doomsday scenario

I'll need to go back to my home country to get married next year, with BvB. I wonder if there's any consequences if I apply for 175 from overseas then go back again. Will there be any issue? Since if I'm not wrong I need to report back to get BvA again.

I don't think 175 application will affect the current BvA in anyway. But yeah, better check that with agencies/DIAC.

And what's the guarantee they will not change the rules again ? mate im not gonna risk that... if they have put us all into category 4 it means they are just trying to compel us to pay more money for new visa applications. I will not trust them with even more of my hard earned money... i will apply to Canada/(somewhere else that takes my fancy) once i get enough experience here....

I just don't want to sit and wait. I'm one who take all possible steps before I give up. I don't want to regret it sometime in the future. I'm open to the possibility applying to other countries, but at the moment with my lack of experience it's still not possible.

Well just wait till you get 2 years of work ex and then think abt what to do i reckon... (U need atleast 2 years for experience if u wanna apply for the 175 too) the cap and cease bill has been thrown out the window (for now anyway) so there's nothing to worry abt in the foreseeable future...

My mindset is exactly the same as your's ("spend less money as we can in Australia, then if they kick us we have money to start elsewhere"). I too will be getting married around the middle of next year. But unlike you my girlfriend is abroad. ive been putting off marriage bcoz she cannot join me here while Im this bridging visa nonsense, hopefully there would be some 'pleasant tidings' with respect to my immigration status by the time.

Maybe this is a long shot, but what the hell :- I was hoping maybe we all could meet up and write down a letter or discuss further actions, or maybe even meet a lawyer that can take up a case for us... Maybe I am not thinking straight...

Its just that my life is put on hold because of this and there seems to be no end to these years and years of waiting.

I think a lot of people commenting on this thread shares that sentiment. If we want to plan for a meet up, I am all for it. Given it can't get any worse than this, what is there to lose. Where in Australia are we all living. Anyone from Melbourne?
