    Hi all,

We are emigrating to Perth this October and would like some info on what we can and can't take with us. I hear the TV/VCR will be no good in Oz.

Is this true or just a myth.

Also any suggestrions on good companies for money transfers.

    Good luck to you all.

    Paul & family.

I have just come back from Perth and asked some friends out there about compatible electrical goods. They said that their large widescreen telly worked when they moved four years ago, so did the computer and most things once you had the plugs switched over. All CD's, DVD's and Video's are also fine. They did say that a couple of their portable TV's did not work though. Before we go, I am going to write down the details of the voltage used over there and call in a friendly electrician, who I am told will be able to tell you whether or not the device will be compatible or not. I cannot find the details of the voltage or wattage at the moment otherwise I would tell you.

Good luck, bit it appears that most things are compatible.

The tele your friends have must be "MULTI PAL", otherwise it would not work on it's own without modification or a VCR. These Multi Pal teles are common in Panasonic models, but not many others.

Also for a UK DVD Player to play Aus DVD's, it must be REGION FREE, as UK DVD Players are designed to only play their Region 2 DVD's. IN AUS, the DVD's are region 4 therefore will not work on a UK locked DVD player.

My TV is a Tompson 32wh211s. I looks like in the menu it will work in allmost any country but it does not state OZ. Does anyone Know if there is another country using the same as OZ. One more thing , it does state after all the countrys, Euro B/G. Would that be Pal B & G. Any advice welcomed.

        Hey Everyone,
I applied for my second year visa on the 19th of Dec and haven't heard anything. My boyfriend and I worked on the same farms for the same time and he got his visa approval back straight away. The only question we answered differently was that I had been outside of the UK for more than 6months. Is it because I out this that it is taking longer?
We wanted to fly back out on the 23rd of Jan bit worried it will take ages as some people have said they are still waiting 2/3months later? My mum is flying out in the 4th of Feb so I hope I get it!
Please help with any other similar stories or why you think it is taking so long? I am really stressing!

        Hello,
If all goes well, then my family and I are planning to move to Adelaide in the month of Aug - Sept 2018 and have a few concerns / questions on money transfers.
can one open a bank account from overseas, i.e. before arriving in Adelaide? If so then how do we go about it? (Money transfer from UAE, Qatar) any recommendations on banks? Some with low service charges etc? is the transferred money taxed? If so then what % Appreciate any other additional info that you may think is useful.

        Thank you.

In mid November the company I was working for went into liquidation after 2.5 years there on 457. I was immediately offered a job by a new firm. I was asked to relocate immediately and did so at great cost. We went to the visa agent and I had all of my details complete, but the company dragged its heals to get all the paperwork done. I was sitting in a new home unable to work for 6 weeks, waiting on this company to sort out the 457 visa transfer. Yesterday I found out the member of staff that was dealing with my employmemt had been fired and the company would withdraw the offer of employment. The company had their own guy who would start in the position I had been offered immediately. I had signed a contract and was ready to start but now that's gone.
I spent 6 weeks waiting for this company to get the 457 transfered and now have a lot less time to find a new job. If I bring all the evidence to immigration can they reset the 90 days? None of this was my fault.

Has anyone got any ideas on opening a bank account in Australia for holiday purposes as I don't fancy paying loads of charges when I use my cards on a holiday?

Hey, my friend and I are both thinking of moving to the bay next year even though parents aren't happy so the won't help us find the information on the bay. We would like to know is it worth it for a year fresh out of school? Can we study there? Is it expensive? Will we find work? Are the bills manageable on a teen wage? Is there financial support there? Is it recommended for two best friends who want out of home?
