tracy123 5,093 Posted July 7, 2010 Millions of homes in north-west England face a hosepipe ban from Friday as water bosses struggle to save water as a drought takes hold. The restrictions include Liverpool and Manchester but do not cover an area around Cockermouth in Cumbria that saw torrential rain and floods last November. Water companies in Wales and southern Scotland are hoping for wetter weather that will reduce the risk of similar curbs in their regions. Across the UK it has been the second-driest first six months for a century. gpo1971 822 Posted July 8, 2010 What's the weather like? When I rang my Mum weekend before last she said it was baking. But last weekend she was moaning she'd had to put the heating on. She is nesh beyond belief tho.
byrned 10 Posted July 8, 2010 Dont you just love england, I can remember once in a drought, we had stand pipes at the end of the street and the water wagon used to come onto the street and all us kids were sent out with our buckets.
Guest gratom Posted July 8, 2010 The weather here in the Uk is superb--lovely and sunny;now and again overcast but nothing to speak about. One of the reasons there is a hosepipe ban in the NW is the high level of leakage from the water pipe system.Desperately needs renewing;they are doing it--but oh so slowly. Also meters on each house would help. The area where I presently reside has these and it cut water use drastically[so I informed].No bans and no shortages:frown:

supa 364 Posted July 8, 2010 It's really nice here in the south west, though we desperately need some rain - I can see a national hosepipe ban if it continues.
Guest famousfive Posted July 8, 2010 west of Ireland has water restrictions for the past few weeks,at home water is off between 8pm and 8am which is a pain in a tourist area.Water being trucked in on a grand scale in quite a few areas in Galway,Clare,Sligo and Leitrim. With all the rain they get in winter you would think someone would build more collection and storage facilities.
