I was born in Australia but now live in England. My daughter has citizenship via descent. She has just told me that she is pregnant. Does that mean my grandchild will have citizenship via descent also, or would the child have to get some type of visa to move to Australia when my daughter decides to come. Sorry if this is a silly question, thanks for any replies.

Nope your grandchild will have no rights to citizenship unless your daughter has lived in Australia for some years (two years I think Australian Citizenship – Child born overseas to an Australian citizen).

So your grandchild born in UK of a citizen by descent will not be Australian because I am assuming his mum hasnt lived here for 2 years at any stage of her life, whereas mine will because my son lived here for 23 years although he was by descent, having been born in UK and I expect his children will also be born in UK.
