State Migration Plans and State Sponsorship

Nobody really knows what is going to happen with the SMP's during the election period,it really depends on whether they are considered a "major policy initiative" or not,if they are considered as just being a

part of the normal running of government then there may not be anything to prevent the minister signing off on them but if they are something that may commit the next government to either a certain

amount of expenditure or a major policy then they could well be delayed until after the election,

I think it will just be a case of wait and see, whichever state has their plan ready to go and wants the

minister to approve it will be the test case methinks.

DIAC say that applicants that applied before 1 July 2010 Can not change their prioritize . If you want to move Higher priority You have to apply new applications.

Dose it mean that ppl who have ss and their occupations on SMP. State will not move them SS to SMP Becose DIAC clearly say that YOu have to apply new applications if you want to move in SMP ( higher priority).

Plz correct me if i am worng.

Nope, i think you are wrong. Think of it this way, if your occupation is on SMP, you are already a Cat. 2 applicant. The fact that you don't know if your occupation is on SMP doesn't change the fact that your skill is on SMP when it is announced. So, you are a Cat.2 as long as your SS occupation is on the SMP.

What DIAC meant is for those whose SS is NOT in the SMP and wants to move the Cat. 2. They have to re-apply. You can't just switch your SS that is NOT in your sponsored state's SMP to another State's SMP simply because that state has your occupation in the SMP. You need to re-apply.

Thus, in short, somewhere in DIAC someone already knew whether your occupation is in the SMP. So they know your processing category. Right now it is just waiting for the release of the SMP for you to officially know your category.

Hope this clarifies.

Is this is collect as much money as possible policy? it looks more like it.. If you do not have ss form one state, u can not change to another cos u already applied under one state. if your skill has changed in last 2 yrs tht u were waiting u can not change ur skill to the current one, change ur application instead.. my husband was given systems manager code, 2 yrs 3 months back, if today he changed from that to say a firewall and network security specialist, he can not update them.. he will hv to go through the old skill. what crap..

Exactly. I think this system is a money making racket. Why should I reapply for a new visa if my occupation is on another State's SMP. All I need to do is apply to that state for sponsorship. At one time, if I needed to change my occupation that I had initially applied for, all I needed to do was inform the CO, of course, provided I had a Skills Assessment which is fine. Now you have to reapply to do the same thing and pay the Visa fees all over again. To me it seems they are trying to recover the money of the refunds made towards the cap and cease of the Pre September, 2007 applicants. I wonder if they need skills or they need a crooked way of getting money quickly ? Shame on them !

Hi dragsterwish

I like your way of thinking ,however nobody knows when the SMPs Will be released,it has been said it would be on the second half of the year (2010-2011) then maybe on september!!! another 2 months to go!!!who knows? In addition since the Smp is not released and published ,no one can say he is cat 2 even he's 100% sure that his nomination will be on the Smp.

I hope I'm wrong!

Somebody's loss is someone elses gain. !!

All those people getting excited about being cat2/3 ( Unfortunately my OH is not ) please dont get carried away just yet. I'm sure you will be ok if you are on the SOL but stranger things have happened and just as quick as a flash you might find yourselves surplus or delayed for what ever reason the minister wants to make up.

I think it is a total disgrace to not prioritise those with SS already irrespective of being on SOL or SMP or whatever. The States sponsored after we had all our crtiteria checked by that state and to disregard now is just wrong.

what I cant get my head around is why have schedule 1 issued for those occupations prior to July 01.2010. What is its significance ? If it has no place in futur processing i.e those applicants already lodged then why issue it in the first place.

Everybody has their opinion but mostly we are trying to second guess what is coming next.

I dont buy into this " Well sod Oz and lets look at Canada instead" My family made the decision to live in Australia and if we dont get in we will be upset but will stay in the UK. If you wantde to live in canada or new zealand why not try there in the first place ? We have no second choice and that was OUR choice. It just makes me feel that those people that say lets go somewhere else instaed maybe are not that bothered about living in OZ afterall.

Good luck to all potential Cat 4's

Shane

Hi Houciaus, Bingo! U've correctly pointed out that nobody except DIAC knows when the SMPs would be out! They kept shifting the release dates! & "second half of 2010" can mean 31 Dec 2010!!!

You are right again on the SMP..... no one can say he is cat 2 before its release. We are all eagerly awaiting its release but trying to stay positive. Bet. choosing to be negative and feel depressed, wouldn't it be better to stay positive and hopeful? At least when the SMP is released and if our skill isn't on the SMP, then we would have had more happy days than depressed days. So let's hope for the best but prepare for the worst too.

Unfortunately, it seems they mean the second half of the financial year as we are yet on the second half of 2010!!!

State migration plans will be developed by state/territory governments in consultation with the department. They will include occupations that are in demand in each individual state and territory. State migration plans are currently being developed and are expected to come into effect during the second half of 2010.

Prema facie, it does look like calendar year that DIAC is refering to. Logically, it sounds like it too. Imagine the horror of delaying the release of the SMP till July 2011!! The States would not allow this to happen..

I too would think it is calendar year because it says 2010 and not 2010-11 ! What do you think

They would be referring to the calendar year,as has been pointed out not even DIAC could make state migration departments wait till 2011 for implementation of SMP's,the states just would not put up with it.

Hi Ozzieland,

I agree that it will probably be the second half of 2010 which is anytime now. Its amazing how DIAC can put things out to try and mislead people. As dragsterwish said, the states will certainly not allow this to go on for much longer. I think it would have a major effect on the Aussie economy if it was held off much longer. I think we should sit tight and wait for another announcement. I personally dont think it will be that long.

Cheers,

Now that the new Priority is out, it makes me feel that the CSL applications are also near completion. Hopefully we will hear from the States as many have promised 1st August as the 'date'.

Good luck !

Hi Houciaus, we are already on the second half of 2010. 1st half (Jan - Jun); 2nd half (July - Dec). Sounds like the World Cup!

I don't really think so and definitely hope not. As Nigel has said, the States will push for them as they need the skillls.

Not forgetting they needed votes during the election period! Bringing on the SMP would get them the much needed votes!

Just seen this post on BE

Just want to share some updates I received from Queensland State Department regarding their SMP plan. Below is their reply regarding SMP announcement.

"Nothing has changed at the moment and as the Federal Government is now in caretaker mode the SMP most likely will not get approved until after the elections."

So it sounds as if it may affect all SMPs - unless anyone had already got theirs passed?
