Pub meet up in Melb to watch the English and Aussie World Cup games?

Recommended Posts

Guest Shazzam

Hi there,

I've been in Melbourne around 5 years now, and I really wanna meet up with some British people to watch the world cup games with.

I've got Aussie mates, but none of them are really into Football, and I miss the British humour...dying for a good laugh with a few British people.

So if anyone wants someone to watch the World Cup games with...please lets arrange a time and a place. I know Bridie O'Reillys on Chapel Street will be showing the matches as well as Copacabana on Smith Street...I'm sure there's heaps of other options as well. Happy to go anywhere in Melbourne to watch them.

So let me know if you fancy it. :)

Cheers,

Shaz xo

I would be up for this too, most of the England games are being shown at 4.30am though!

Annoying...the 4.30am games are on the weekend though, so maybe we can still head to the pubs showing them. Might keep an eye out for somewhere showing them.

Hi there,

I've been living in Melbourne for slightly less than 5 years, 3 days to be precise.

I have headed here from Manchester on my own and definitely want to go out for the World Cup games.

Please let me know what you have planned - would love to join.

Dan

Hi

The Copacabana on Smith St isn't showing any of the games that start at 4.30am, and some of the games they are showing are not guaranteed to be aired live with the sound. Also, a couple of the games will attract a cover charge.

The Turf Bar on Queen St isn't showing the 4.30am games live either. The best option might be the Sportsbar (Steakout) which is located on the level above the main casino gaming area.

Jim

Arrived 10th June 08

Jim - Labourer

Rachel - Saviour of Foxtel!

Cheers Jim...I reckon we give Steakout at Crown a try then as a venue, and we can see how that goes?

Just landed in Melbourne without family (following later). Well up for meeting to watch England on Saturday / Sunday. Bridie O'Reillys suits me, as I'm staying near Chapel Street.

Let me know if anyone fancies meeting there.

I was looking around and found this, as ive been looking myself where to watch the games!

Bars Showing the World Cup Melbourne

The Charles Dickens from a few searches seems to be the place most ex pat English go, but aside from that I see that:

The Hotel Windsor - The Hotel Windsor Cricketer's Bar - Melbourne Cricketer's Bar

Is also showing the England game with the bar open nice and early the day before with decent meals also.

Im desperate to find a good crowd to watch the games with!!! Came over to Oz alone for a bit of a travelling holiday in Nov, planned to stay for 3months but landed a perm job so now applying for 457.... like you guys I have quite a few Aussie mates but they dont appreciate footy (the BEAUTIFUL game - not the fake Australian rubbish lol)!!!

To stop me feeling home-sick for the atmosphere you would get in England I'd love to arrange to meet somewhere packed with Brits to watch the matches!!! Best suggestions look like Bridie O'Reilly's or the Casino?

P.s You guys sure places will be open at 4.30?!

I've been in Oz for about 4 years and know very few english people here - am married to an Aussie. I've been to Charles Dickens before to watch england matches and its really good - great atmosphere like back home. I've just called them and they are definately showing it - may be worth getting there early though as I remember we had to queue for a while last time.

Very excited for it all to start. Hope to meet some of you over the next few weeks.

Hi all,

I have lived in Melbourne for the past 6 years and now have the pleasure of running The Exford hotel in the city, We will be showing all the World cup games and we are licensed until 7am. We also have a backpackers upstairs so should be a good atmosphere with a good mix of nationalities. I can't promise it will be packed with English but I am going to be there watching the games. It would be good to fill the place and recreate the pub atmosphere back home.

After a quick recce round some of the bars this afternoon, a few of us poms are going to watch it at the Imperial Hotel, 2-8 Bourke St, next to Parliament station, it looks as good as anywhere, serving food and beer all night and its slightly bigger than the Charles Dickens

Hope to see some of you there...........

I'd be up for Bridie O'Reilly's on Chapel street as its local, but apparently it was dead for the last match, so I'm thinking of heading to the Sports bar in the Casino.

Anyone else up for it ?
