Thats exactly my take on it. The priority processing will be as per the email from DIAC.

Now, and post 1st July.

DIAC have stated that priority processing arrangements for applications for permanent skilled migration will continue until they are reviewed in mid-2010. So I guess in July we will probably hear of changes to the current priority processing rules. By then hopefully the respective State migration plans will be approved and in place (a tall order and wishful thinking but still).

Yep, totally agree ! But what could they change ? It's a demand led migration policy now.

1. Got an Employer Sponsored job ? - we'll fast track you !

2. Got RSMS ? - ditto

3. On the old CSL ? - yep, we'll stick to the plan (for now)

4. Got SS under an approved SMP ? No you don't - we'll decide !!!

5. None of the above - Sit tight, it's gonna be a wait

Well, maybe I'm just tired with all the changes, but it all makes sense to me.

Yeah.. there have been a few changes and I can see why but they way these changes have been carried out 'without warning', it is just not fair to so many. There are bound to be more changes at least in the near future but hopefully things will settle down quickly.

I am just guessing here and your guess is as good as mine and any one else's. See if the following makes any sense.....

1. Applications from people who are employer sponsored under the ENS and the RSMS.

2 (a) Applications from people who are nominated by a State/ Territory government agency under a State Migration Plan agreed to by the Minister and on the new SOL. All applicants previously under 3 and 5 (i.e. CSL and non CSL, already holding SS) and are also on the current SOL and SMP list could move here automatically (no need to apply for SMP again provided it is the same state). Existing applicants who are currently on cat 4 (CSL but no SS) and on the new SOL and SMP list could apply to move to Cat 2.

2 (b) Applicants not on SOL but falling under SMP**

** The SMP could probably be a subset of the SOL. If there is an immediate need of a particular set of skills/occupations that are not on the SOL, the States would have make a strong case as to why a particular occuption not on the new SOL should be included in their SMP. These applicants could fall under cat 2 (b). There might be very few, if any, additions to the SMP over and above what are already listed in the SOL.

3 (a). All existing applicants under old cat 3 on the new SOL and sponsored by a relative.

(b) All existing applications on SOL, not under 1, 2 and 3a above, in the order received

4 (a) All existing applications, not falling under 1, 2 and 3above , in the order they were received.

All new applications will fall under either 1, 2 or 3 and will be processed after the existing applications under the respective categories.

That sounds good lets hope your right. Surely somebody with the same SOL occupation as me cant apply in July and then be ahead of me? what is to stop me now canceling my current 176 and being first in the line in July ( obviously the fee) but im sure that is what will happen if they dont sort it out.

They did put the last list of priority processing in place knowing that the SMP (cat 2) would not be in place until July (so one category totally non-existant for at least 6 months) and with the knowledge that CSL would expire by July. It does make me question their thinking unless the current PP will remain as is? and does the new SOL have any relevance to PP whatsoever?

I do hope that - for example Electrician is on the new SOL and also on the Victoria SS that it would automatically go onto the SMP as it has been identified as "needed"?

All seems to hinge on the SMP's for future PP - and I bet they will all be ready and approved exactly come the 1st day of July 2010 !! ;-)

I would think so too since all states want people and without the SMP their chances are slim :-)

Hi everybody,

I was assessed by ACS in 2231-79 (Network Security Specialist).

I applied for state sponsorship and got rejected from Victoria.

I applied for state sponsorship from South Australia on 6 May 2010 and sent supporting documents same day. They changed my application status to "Complete set of supporting documents are in SA immigration office" on 11 May 2010.

Now, I see new SOL and I'm not sure if my assessment is valid or not, is here somebody to help me and get me out from this gloomy mood?

I'm in exactly the same boat ! Had the rug pulled from my feet. SA have not announced what is happening, they are processing only SS for those that already have a visa lodged, so we are in a state of limbo until DIAC allow new Visa applications to be made, and also until we are advised of the workings of the SMP's. I'm kinda wondering if you will still need to apply for the SA SMP list, which will hopefully be the same as the SS process and therefore our existing SS applications will be processed as that - thats what I'm hoping anyways.

I contacted my skills assessor and they advised that it's likely the codes will overlap, but if not, just to get back in touch and they would issue a new letter.

I'm sure SA will be aware of the various codes for each discipline.

My application is currently with ACS for 2231-79 (Network Security Specialist) also. I'm hoping to get a positive assessment, and then possibly apply for SS Victoria, but worried now! Did VIC explain why they rejected you?

I had 130 points before 8 February 2010, and after that unforgettable date I have 115 so I could not move forward through 175 and have to get SS. Do you think 2231-79 (Network Security Specialist) is in the new SOL list?

They emailed after 3 weeks and asked about job opportunity in Victoria and told if I found a job vacancy with contract they will approve my SS!

Hi md8008

I think you'll be fine on the new sol - the roles listed are more generic when it comes to IT.

Take a look here 1220.0 - ANZSCO - Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations, First Edition, 2006

Search for the role as listed in the SOL or the first 4 digits of the code number and see which description fits your role best.

Good luck with everything.

md8008, from what I can see from the ANSCO site we come under the 263111 COMPUTER NETWORK AND SYSTEMS ENGINEER code. Vic must have been near or on their quota for network professionals to turn you down as from what I hear, it's almost impossible to secure work from outside OZ!

I didn't get why Victoria state told me to secure a work.

Also please be aware 263111 COMPUTER NETWORK AND SYSTEMS ENGINEER is not in the new SOL. is there any special quota for states other than what is in new SOL?

Hi Suzie,

The problem is that 2231-79 (Network Security Specialist) is closer to 263111 COMPUTER NETWORK AND SYSTEMS ENGINEER which is not in the new SOL.I hope the accept it under Telecommunications network engineer.

I'm led to believe that they will be clarifying the roles in greater detail before the 1st July, which should shed some more light on the code. 263111 may well then come under the Telecommunications network engineer, which matches our skills closer. Every state has a quota for each skill I'm guessing, and from the jobs I've seen advertised for Melbourne and Sydney, network security is in demand, after all it was on the critical skills list for the previous ASCO, hence why it was a 60 point skill

I agree with you about clearance that DIAC would do it but please check NSW SS job on demands, they need Java, Siebel, Oracle e-business. I think NSW required occupations are key rules to choose what ANZSCO must remain on the table. NSW doesn't sponsor you as Network Security Specialist so the federal government does same!

They will have a general list that covers OZ as a whole, then specific SS lists. I'm only really interested in VIC, as thats where I want to migrate to. The state skills lists are due out in June apparently, so fingers crossed
