We submitted with just under 2 hours til cut-off so am hoping we were OK.

I just checked their site and the options for submitting a new online visa for 175, 176 and 475 are now greyed out. As we managed to lodge and get a TRN we are hoping that is OK.

I wish you all the best Claireg... cause as far i know this is the first nightmare DIAC had released, the new nightmare is the new SOL list... boy even i am scared of that list...

This has been the most stressful morning ever, received my NSW SS letter this morning at 8am, got into work and found out about the suspension and HURRIED to apply online! I got a TRN number an hour before cut off and in the process of attaching documents it timed out. I hope that I made it in time!

Good luck to everyone, I'm holding thumbs/crossing fingers and praying ;)

If you have paid the application fee within the time, you are ok. You have plenty of time to upload the documents.

Congratulations! and best of luck

Best of luck to everyone who got their applications in on time!!!

Me on the otherhand, Im waiting for my skills assessment ( project admin) and have my IELTS on the 5th of June, I was applying for a 176 Family sponsored visa. Does anyone think DIAC will make any changes to the Family Visa, as my occupation I dont think is going to be on the next SOL, is there any hope left for people like me in this situation?? Good luck everyone < I feel your pain!!

Hi everyone, we managed to lodge our visa app by 10.01 pm Sydney time on 7th May 2010. However, on our receipt it says Submitted date 08/05/10 but our Credit card transaction says 07/05/10.

We have a TRN number and the site told us our app had been submitted but we don't know if we quite made it in time.

When we try to login to the site we are told

The following errors have been encountered:

Unable to provide further processing details at this time as the link to the application processing system is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

So looks like they have shut the site temporarily. It still does say underneath on Application status that it has commenced.

So I will be crossing all my fingers and toes (if that's possible!) and hope that everyone who has submitted today is accepted and we don't get our fees returned.

It's been quite a day I can tell you

Claire

I have just tried to log onto the site again and we can get in now and it says that our Application has Commenced with the date of 07/05/10. So relieved.

Thanks once again to George and Alan and everyone who sent good luck wishes to me today.

I can't believe it is 4.20 pm (UK time) and I haven't even showered or left the house and am still mooching around on PIO. Going to wait til at least 6 pm before the vino is opened.

i dont know wether to feel cross or just say ah well just have to wait and see.

we have just sent off our skills ass to ANMC today, and have have of our online visa done, and cudt finish it until we have the skills asses number back, so dont know if this will now all chage, or if our old trans number for the online APP will still be valiad to continue it when things are back on again !!!!!!!!!

i would like to think that nurses will be still on the new SOL that is out end of MAY/JUNE.

we thought a few ppl posted that they just submitted there online visa to get it started then sent docs etc later on, but the application would not let us finish unless we had the skills number etc.:swoon:

No the temporary suspension is for new GSM apps 175, 176 & 475. If you are already in the system you will be processed according to the current priorities.

I suppose it was going to happen! For some time I have been saying the only route to Australia is or will be by getting a job and then submitting the visa. This move by DIAC only strengthens my view. Fortunately my clients are not affected by this decision and with DIAC shutting up shop to GSM it should speed up RSMS and 457 visa applications.

The next thing to watch out for is everyone will have to have a minimum qualification of AQF III in their respective trade.

If you are looking for an alternative plan I work with a large number of the UK migration agents so if you are talking to your agent ask them about me and see if they are prepared to introduce you to me. Best wishes

It's true that the news is devastating for the new applicants but I think that if DIAC had taken this measure earlier, they would have cleared a huge part of the backlog.

My Agent was due to post all the relevant forms Friday afternooon for delivery on Monday.. 176 visa... needless to say I am as furious as I am despondant! We even achieved 125 points to ensure we had the best prepared application.. we waited on my IELTS results etc.. :¬C

Hi, I'm happy for those that got in just in the nick of time. I've been in a mad rush waiting on skills assessment, and managed to get my SA SS sponsorship off this week, couriered to arrive next Tuesday, apart from any problems with volcanic ash, it should get there before the SA government cut-odd date next Thursday, which they put in place to help all those trying beat the 1st July deadline. :err:

Phew ! What a relief, we thought we had made it, began to relax, then had a look in here for the first time this week ( I used the site for all the help in getting info on SA and Visa's etc - So thanks folks ! xx. ) and just sat there numb, in utter disbelief.

The big risk for us, was that the old CSL applications would not get priority processing after 1st July once it had been revoked. I had 1 hour today to think about/apply online for a 175, but decided against it, putting myself under too much pressure, and what if we don't get SS, I'd be left with 100 points on a 175 at a cost with medicals etc of £2500 and virtually no chance of seeing Oz for years to come. SS would have come through if we were lucky and could have changed the visa to a 176, but was unsure if they would let you do so after this announcement.

Really, what the hell is going on here ?? There was absolutely no warning or even suggestion of this, but it's just to be expected from everything I've seen since looking into OZ.

There must be a lot of political pressure being applied here, and DIAC must have been inundated with applications with people trying to meet this deadline.

Has the economic outlook in OZ deteriated recently for them to suddenly apply the brakes again ? I noticed SA's unemplyment figures jumped from 4.8% to 5.4% last month.

I feel really sorrry for folks that have been waiting a long time and keep missing out because the goalposts keep moving.

I just thought I'd post this in here in case people have missed the thread in the non-sticky section, what with all the hype today, but SA has ceased processing SS applications too. Whether this includes already lodged applications im not certain but I believe so. Heres the link.

Yeh, thanks for posting, looks like I made the right decision. I didn't even think to look on SA's website. I'm just not caring today, put myself under so much pressure, it was always gonna be to the wire. Glad I didn't apply for the 175 now, I wonder how it will affect folk who have done this while waiting on SS to upgrade to a 176 later.

Suppose its just a case of waiting to see the new SOL and state migration plan.

We have 130 points for 175 which was lodged in december, so hopefully our application will still stand until whatever point in the future it will get processed (if ever!!) We wanted SS to increase our priority in terms of processing. It may well be the case that this may affect those lodged with a 175 but are relying on the changeover to the 176 as you suggest.

Im in the same boat as you claire, i been flying around all day, i got it submitted by 19.30 Sydney time, bit earlier than you. I recieved an e-mail conferming my GSM 176 applaction and it has been dated the 7th, but like you on my receipt it says the 8th.

I also had problems with the website all day, it was driving me nuts!!!

I only got my TRA Assessment this morning, then had to send it to VIC to finish off the SS applaction.

They e-mailed me back fairly prompt, i was wondering how come they got back so quick?

Then i logged on to PIO and seen the first post this morning by George or Allan, cant remember, i was in a tizzy and had to work quick, good job i checked my e-mail this morning at 6.

What a day!!!!!!!!! we deserve a few beers for that!!

All i have to do now is upload the docs!! , hopefully do that all tomorrow

Hopefully they will accept our applactions?

I still find it amazing how they can make these radical and major changes over night so to speak! Well today lets shut the doors!!! It just annoys me that they took my money ages ago, which I have paid in full straight away off my credit card, when that could have been sat in the bank giving me some interest, say 1p a month!!!

I find this whole process very disheartening........... I guess those who have their visas are mopping their brow with a 'few thank god we go in their in time!!!'. The rest of us have been to Tesco to stock up on the alchol! It will be interesting so see if ANY............. even 1 PIO member comes through with a grant in the coming weeks!

All I can say that if they had a backlog last year when I applied, and applications have increased in volume this year, I would hate to be in their shoes and they are only adding to the backlog by not processing!!!!

no_vacancy_1_hat-p148061060760437535trur_210.jpg I think that this sums it up!!

Hi All

I didn't see today's announcement about GSM visas until I got home this evening. I was too busy at work to pay any attention to PiO during the day, plus when I had a spare moment I was looking that the latest news about the UK General Election.

Thanks very much to the Mod who realised the significance of the announcement and made this thread sticky. Huge thanks to George Lombard and Alan Collett as well, for keeping everyone informed, and who encouraged those who were able to apply today to get on and do so, without delay.

Senator Chris Evans is the Australian Minister for Immigration. He has now proven that he is not a man of honour who keeps his word about anything. Today will teach people not to believe anything that he says and not to believe anything that his flunkeys within DIAC say, either.

I said a week ago that the sudden non-appearance of the new SOL was suspicious and I thought that the Minister might delay its publication in order to make it effective immediately. I was shouted down. As it happens - though it gives me no pleasure to say so - I was right. That is exactly what he has done, in effect, albeit by a far more draconian and sudden means than even an arch-cynic like me would have expected from him.

Shame on the Minister, shame on the DIAC flunkeys who gave no warnings at all about what the bloke was really up to, but who led the MIA members and the public alike up the garden path instead and shame on Kevin Rudd for permitting these things to happen in the name of Australia and the Citizens and PRs of Australia, frankly.

I am disgusted with the Australian Government, frankly.

Gill

PS: Please note that the Aussies have been suspiciously silent about their new Points Test today. That is supposed to be effective from "mid-2010" onwards as well, so they have claimed. That will also have a huge relevance to which people will be able to apply for GSM visas under the new regime once the new regime becomes active. Nobody should doubt otherwise.

I agree with you Gill. What is so heartbreaking is that so many people have put in so much of 'hard earned' money and if at least they were given a fair chance then I am sure any new change would have been accepted gracefully. They have not only stopped accepting current GSM applications but have left everyone in 'limbo' not knowing what the future holds. I pray that all goes well for everyone because as a 'human being' you first have to have a heart !

Hi Ozzieland

Thanks.

The Aussie Government is all heart, I assure you. Absolutely made of heart, it is. However the relevant sinews of the relevant heart are solely directed at hoping that the Aussie Voter will not turf them out at the General Election which Australia has to call prior to April 2011 according to Wiki.

They can see for themselves that Western democracies prefer capitalism to socialism. Philosophically, the Aussie Voter is closer to the Brits than he is to the French, for example. In the UK, the electorate has told Gordon Brown to start packing. The Aussie Voters might tell Krudd the same thing......

Cheers

Gill

I can, to a small degree, agree with the poster that said they admired the Australian Government's stance on looking after it's citizens by capping the amount of immigrants to the country due to the global recession. However, where's the transparency in the visa process...... a word often used but rarely put into action by politicians.

I totally agree with the poster that said this migration malarkey is like trying to hit a moving target! The rules change that often that during the visa process, i feel like i've taken part in some weird lucky dip rather than a respected migration programme.

It all seems totally unfair and often fraudulent at times, almost like selling something under false pretences. Sorry i've ranted but just wanted to wish you all good luck that are caught up in this mess x
