Recommended Posts

Guest Aisling

Hi everyone

Have just recently moved to Perth from Lonon where I worked as a teaching assistant and learrning support with children with special needs in a primary school and loved the work.

can anyone tell me if there are similiar roles in Perth or which agencies, websites specialise in jobs in education or government jobsworking with children with special needs.

many thanks

Aisling

Hi Aisling! The Department of Education advertises all its jobs on the JobsWA website:

JOBS.WA.GOV.AU - Employment opportunities with the W.A. government

The DoE is a massive employer and it would be definitely easier to get a job in the public school system rather than the private school system.

Good luck!

Hi Aisling, I am in mid flow of my Defacto visa app (I have my telephone interview tomorrow!). I too am a Learning Support Assistant for children with special needs in a secondary school in Clapham, London, so I will also be looking for a job in this field when/if my visa is granted!! My partner and I are hoping to be in Perth around October so please let me know how you get on and good luck. x

You dont actually need any qualifications to be a teacher aide but it helps if you have a cert iii. There is a high demand for these jobs as they appeal to mums who want school hours while their kids are little. Pay is not good and conditions are often casual as the funding for them varies. People who have got aide jobs have generally done volunteer work in the schools to get their face known. Teacher's Aide this site says that job prospects are good but I would imagine that would probably be like teaching - there are vacancies but probably not in places where you actually want to work.

Hi Bumble good luck with everything and hope you get your visa sorted soon. Its definiately not like London where experienced TAs are in demand. Over here its a casual role with no experience necessary and you have very little teaching involved.its more just helping the teacher with photocopying and attending to kids physicial needs. I have a young baby so by the time I pay for childcare it would notbe worth my while as wages are low. Just be warned Perth is lovely but very expensive.

Good luck
