Just a quick update. My RACGP fellowship came through this morning and we also got a case officer for our PR visa as well. It's been a fantastic day!!

I just need to get on to AHPRA now, the plan is to drop in to their Melbourne office in a few weeks when we are visiting.

Hope your applications are going well.

You sound so spookily like us - OH is MRCS and MRCGP and is a partner in a practice in Scotland, she has just given 3 months notice and will Locum in the UK until all the paperwork is completed. We have just been out to Adelaide and she has been offered positions with 2 rural practices about an hour outside the city. Our plan is to get out there for September paperwork permitting. For anyone looking for a position in South Australia I can suggest you contact The Rural Doctors Workforce Agency, they are Government funded and will bend over backwards to find you the right place to work and to make sure that you have support for all members of the family after your move.

You seem you have the same problem as me ! Will you practice surgery in australia?

what are the prerequisites to find a job in south australia?

I'm not sure, I found out I have a case officer allocated when I rang last night and according to their system my application was almost fully processed, pending Fellowship / AMC sign-off. I applied 5 weeks ago.

To help push things along, I asked the RACGP to email the confirmation letter to the AMC and the AHPRA case officer.

Just woke up to find that AHPRA have emailed my approval letter to me. I just need to visit their offices to confirm my identity. It took 5 weeks in total.

My tip would be to call the RACGP regularly and email the specialist officer, to gently remind them about your application. Also make sure you call AHPRA to find out who your case officer is (I had no contact from mine until the approval letter came through).

Good luck with your registration, and send me a message if you need any more info.

I'm sure I'll be posting asking for more advice at some point.

We are going Rural (an hour outside Adelaide), and the area we are going to has DWS status (District Workforce Shortage) I think there are less hoops to jump through. The practice is sponsoring and because of the combined skills ie surgeon/gp my wife is classed as a Category 1 Doctor so can just transfer her he qualifications to RACGP and AMC. You may find it helpfull to talk to the Rural Doctors Workforce Agency.

A very big Congratulations! That is really great news.

We just received an email from a lady who may be the Co at APHRA asking for COGS and for the fellowship letter. It wasnt clear whether RACGP should send them the fellowship letter of if we just need to forward the Emailed fellowship letter.--because we havent received a hard copy--only an email with the fellowship grant as an attachment.

Hi whoiam, they accepted an email of the fellowship letter, although I called the RACGP to send it directly to the case officer just in case. If you call the specialist officer at the RACGP , she will email it across.

APhra sorted last week. They seem to be working at super speed. M.H. our case worker kept emailing us and kept us in the loop throughout--the only delay was in them getting the COGS and Fellowship letter. Quite impressed!

********* Can members please remember not to mention case workers names on an open forum, you may use their initials. We have had complaints in the past from case Workers and other officials who do not wish to see their names on open forums********

Thank you

Dr Scotland - I did my medical school elective in the Emergency Department at Flinders Medical Centre - it was bak in 2005 but it was a lovely hospital and department and everyone was so nice! They have really good teaching in the department and a lovely waterfall/garden area to have lunch in!

Im not sure about going over on a tourist visa/WHV while you wait for the 457 to come throughh - we are applying for the 457 visa too and hoping to go in early September, but the agency we are with have advised waiting at least until the RACGP/APRHA has come through before we book flights, and didnt suggest the tourist/WHV as an option.

Hope you get further advice from someone here!

Thanks Emma. They're requesting my AHPRA and visa stuff from me now, so I'm pretty hopeful it will all be done in plenty of time. And that's great to know it's a good dept! The clinical director, whom I've been in touch with, has been great. So excited....only four more months of the NHS to go :-)

Where are you off to?

Congratulations whoiam! It feels great when the paperwork comes through.

I went to the AHPRA offices in Melbourne this week for an identity check as I am over on holidays at the moment.

I'm counting down the weeks until we are back in Australia in July.

Hello!

Just wondered if there's anyone still following this thread?

Hoping all your paperwork is going smoothly, we are waiting for AMC clearance........it's been 8 long weeks now. As a GP with MRCGP I think it should be fairly straightforward for me but my OH is a surgeon with FRCS, anybody have experience of the surgical colleges out there?

We are very excited about making the move and hopefully by the end of the year will be on the Sunshine Coast , the waiting game is not so much fun though and the rain certainly doesn't help!

Thank you again everyone!

We had some great news today, AMC has referred us to the colleges  Finally feel like we're getting somewhere!

Recruitment company said that FRCS equivalence should be straightforward as long as you have CCT and may have to have an interview with the college before its granted, fingers crossed!

I noticed a lot of you have applied for APHRA before getting college go ahead, my recruitment company said I had to wait for college approval first but it makes sense to get that ball rolling early, especially if it'll take as long as AMC?

Thanks Palmyra- will try and work out how to send a PM!

Hope everyone's progressing well out there,

Kitty

Forgot to ask- has anyone not managed to get a letter from school about English proficiency? My school say they only keep records for 7 years and have told me to contact the local education authority..... Seems crazy to need that when you have basic and specialist training as well as having worked in the UK but the recruitment company are insisting on a letter for my APHRA application. :err:

Guest Daniel and Emma

hi everyone

Just an update to say my AMC and RACGP applications have been approved in just under 4 weeks for each part! Im just waiting for AHPRA now but received an email today to say they have received the application, so hopefully it wont be too long!

Kitty33 - I am going through a recruitment agency too and they sent me all the forms at the beginning and then send them to the relevant agencies as they are requested - they said it had to go to the RACGP before they could apply to AHPRA, but it does seem like people doing it themselves have sent it off earlier.

Just looking forward to booking the flights now - the agency have advised to wait a couple of weeks after the AHPRA application has been sent off and the visa has been applied for, so hopefully not too long!

The company I will be working for helped with my paperwork. I was advised to apply to AHPRA first whilst awaiting RACGP - it came through quicker and then waited for RACGP - but meant that I had AHPRA approval a week after RACGP. It took us 26 weeks from accepting the job to getting visa through - but I had to do 2 resubmissions to AMC each taking an extra 2 weeks with postage etc
