Call me a cynic, but after the departments defeat and U Turn on the AOS matter, I wouldn’t be surprised if they have decided to hold back awarding any more visas until they implement AOS 2.0 after all, we have no target only a ceiling.

Some people will have had visas turned down because of the AOS changes the government brought in so they will now be reassessed under old rules. Probably means that those visas will now be granted and use up some of the remaining places for this year. Staff are obviously having to go back and  work on reassessing those so I guess that’s why there’s been no progress for a while.

Extract from email from PVC received this morning....

UNCLASSIFIED

Dear Sir/Madam,

-          AOS. Please provide a copy of the AOS Acceptance Letter via email once you receive it from Centrelink. We are aware the current processing time for AOS by Centrelink is up to 12 weeks and have extended your application for this duration.

I don’t understand what’s challenging their to reassess, March applications have been assessing since January and their is no transeperency like running out of yearly quota or budgets. Most frustrating part they are increasing time like anything 39months?

count up:

on on first week of February it was _ 9th April

12th March Slightly up — 13th April

Mid April _ 20th April then 24th April and currently 30th April

so February,Mar,April, and 24 days of May “April April April “

So are you saying this may be politically driven and every other reason given is less than true[emoji15][emoji15][emoji15]. I am stunned, I never believed this could happen. Still it will be different when Bill Shorten is in power.

Re your second sentence: you are joking, I'm sure ...

The man who would say anything to get power.   His initials say it all.

Onwards!

Oh no , Bill Shorten knows about doing it tough, Moonee Ponds is a hotbed of Champagne Socialists, we have to pass their empties as we take our grandie to gymberoo...... Struggle.

Seriously, look how the wind is blowing, huge amount of negative press in the Aus papers today about Syrian refugees forcing out white families from Sydney. This is happening day after day, immigration is a hot topic and never let the truth get in the way of an election.

The queue for the 864 CPV has only moved 6 weeks in the last 20 months, from September 2016 to 27th October 2016 the lack of movement is past a joke. There is a complete lack of transparency/honesty on the wait for parent visas. A shambles.

It's unbelievable only 6 week of movement. I wonder if this is due to people switching from non-contributory visas or if they are just bringing the 864 processing times inline with 143s.

Just looking back on previous years it looks like 2017-18 has been slightly better than 2016-17 for 143 and 173 visas. The queue has moved forward by 6 months this year, compared to 5 months the year before. So if immi continues progress at the same rate, we should see the processing date move forward to October 2015 by the end of the 2018-19 year, with wait times extending to 45 months.

Our own lodgement was March 2016 and I now am hopeful of having our visas by June 2020 (Only 51 months!).

Is the Department really surprised?

If you push out processing times and onshore visa applications become the strategy of choice it surely isn't a massive shock if the number of BV holders increases ...

Hey ho.

Up to 12 weeks????  That is very interesting.  We are now over 20 weeks and are still waiting to hear something.  We have been quoted 8 weeks and 18 weeks by Centrelink and have exceeded both of these.  We are at a complete loss as to what to do next.  Is there anyone else out there who has been waiting this long?

Well they probably got this information from the same book that says "all visas are issued in strict application date"..... We can but wait .....

Found on one of the financial sites yesterday...... but I expect on another site somewhere there is another article stating the complete opposite....but I like this one best.

For the Pound-to-Aussie rate, Foley and the Rabo team forecast Sterling will rise from its 1.78 level Monday to 1.84 before the year is out and 1.95 before the end of the first quarter 2019.

We applied for our 173 back in 2014 when I still was fairly sane, had only a few grey hairs and had no idea of the stress, frustration and complete bewilderment we would experience whilst in the ‘parent visa waiting room’ - the word ‘Test’ still invokes panic even today.

FINALLY we found ourselves escaping that room when we granted in June 2016 and happiness descended like a warm blanket.

Circumstances including finances forced us to take the longer and ultimately more expensive 173 to 143 route.

When we initially applied back in 2014 the  conversion from 173 to 143 was a couple of months.  At time of grant it had lengthen to 3 -6 months and so accordingly we decided to apply 18 months after grant instead of waiting full 2 years.  I was horrified to see in my first automated response in 18 months that wait was 13 months as of last February and now has slightly decreased to just under a year.

This process is really only reconfirming work done at grant stage and the AOS fiasco was only in the last 2 months so can’t be blamed for increase before April.  As we were included in the head count for 2016 contributory parent this conversion has no capping requirements.  Also I would have thought the fact that waiting times for 173/143 has increased dramatically over last few years this would likely give some parents a longer chance to sell the family silver or possibly that inconvenient child who was messing up their balance of family percentage  and therefore go for 143 leading to a dimenished number of 173 applicants.

So I would really really like to know what the explanation could possibly be for a 400% increase in waiting time in less than 2 years.

As our 173 ends next month and we move to a bridging visa for at least 6 months now I just would like to have an explanation as to why - am I honestly asking too much here!!

Well said. We ALL feel your pain. The whole process from day one is a torturous fiasco. I’m sure many of us feel like giving up which is probably what THEY are hoping for!!
