Not quite right on the tax position: tax residents receive a tax free threshold and the 19% rate band.

Non residents are taxed at 32.5% on the first $ of certain Australian source income.

If you have a temporary residency visa (eg a visitor visa) and are a tax resident of Australia only Australian source income is likely to be taxable in Australia.

Agreed that professional advice from a tax advisor that specialises in tax issues affecting migrants to Australia is a good idea.

Best regards.

Thanks Alan for the correction.

We go to the accountants next week for this advice for this year and next. This is the problem of using online tax calculators which have a myriad of variables. I am happy to post the advice as I receive it so that others will be able to plan the big jump.

Make sure the accountants are familiar with the position for persons such as you.

In my experience many don't know about visa types and the interaction with tax compliance in Australia.

Best regards.

Hi all,

After you lodged the AOS guarantee with the bank and give the evidence document to Centrelink, will you receive the AOS confirmation letter by post from Centrelink?

Digging into the posts, it seems like everyone in here receive it in mygov through linking Centrelink, but I cannot link Centrelink in mygov and Centrelink could not tell why. I am wondering anyone receive it by post?

The 12 month visitor visa usually has a condition requiring taking our private health cover for the period you are in Australia.

Feel able to send a PM to me if you would like details of my contact at BUPA in Australia with a view to obtaining details of premiums payable.

Best regards.

Does this mean that you are not able to access the reciprical Medicare if you have this condition on your visa . I wondered if the form/visas were generic and this condition only applied to maybe applicants from countries without reciprical arrangements. On our very recent trip i had this visa condition but was still able to get a Medicare card

Bridgie,Mrs Bee , Alan - Many thanks for all your contributions which have been both reassuring and extremely helpful. This forum really is brilliant!

Alan - I will send you a separate PM. Thanks again everyone for helping me to sort out my future!

Thanks Brenda, that is helpful. Did you apply for two years on the 600 visa from the start? Can you remember roughly how long it took to process and whether it was straightforward? Presumably you were able to link into Medicare via the reciprocal arrangements but were you required to take out additional medical insurance? (Sorry for all the questions!)

I really think this may be the answer for me now. incidentally it wasn't my agent who advised against this route - it was Geoffandgills.

We just applied for 12months but when the visa was granted there was the option as Bridgie said of entering Australia multiple times within a 12 month period, (with a 12 month stay allowed on each entry), so by leaving the country after 11 months, we could return before the visa expired and stay for a further year. ( I did phone the visa office on 3 different occasions to confirm this was so, as I was concerned I'd misread it!).

I think we were granted the visa within a couple of days and it was a very straightforward process. We did take out health insurance for the duration.

Hope this helps!

Sorry, another question which is quite critical. Does the initial 12 months start when the visa is granted or when you actually arrive in Australia with that visa? If the latter, then do you know if there is a fixed period from when the visa is granted until when arrival in Australia is allowed? Whoops, I think that was a 2nd question!

Now this is going to sound very silly but I'm going to ask for opinions anyway.

Last year we were granted our 143 parents visa. We were visiting Australia at the time, so had to go on holiday to New Zealand while it was issued. This meant that it was validated on our return to Australia several days later. We returned to the UK at the end of our holiday and have been here ever since, intending to make the big move this year.

As as we approach the anniversary of our visa issue, I am starting to have niggling doubts about whether it was validated on our return from New Zealand last year. It probably sounds ridiculous to those of you who have yet to get the magical visa, but you don't get anything when its validated, there's no special stamp in your passport or anything like that. I keep wondering if it was definitely validated because if you don't validate it within twelve months of issue, the whole thing is voided.

Should I email the P.V.C and check or am I being ridiculous?

if your details in centrelink doesn't 100% same with mygov the it won't link.

In my case, my Middle Name is appended with the First Name field in the TAX account but not with centrelink. I had added TAX and Medicare first before linking Centrelink to MyGOV. MyGOV took the TAX or Medicare naming format as defaults and now is conflicting with Centrelink. It is possible to resolve the conflict but i did get enough time to physically go to centrelink. I will need to fix Middle Name issue with centrelink then unlink all the accounts and the link again.

Hi,

I am confused, I am planning to go to Oz on an extended tourist Visa for 12 months, will I be able to go "offshore" after 11 months and then be eligible for another 12 months.

Thanks

Hi Mrs Bee, see posts from Bridgie and also Brenda M below.

It sounds as though you will be doing what I am also now planning. Any idea on time scale? where are you in the main "queue"?

Apologies Mrs Bee, I asked questions about time scale but you had already given this information on your 15/3 post!

This might sound a silly question, but what counts as the lodgement date for lodging the parent visa? Is it the day you hand in your visa, or is it the day it's acknowledged?

We are going to immigration on Monday morning to lodge our 864 visa application, we know we have to be onshore to lodge, but we are a bit tight on time for it to be acknowledged as we are heading off to UK for 11 weeks on Tuesday 28th, and want to preferably lodge before we go away.

Would be just our luck for the cost to go up early, if we left it till our return.

Hi Ramot

We lodged our 103 application in February 2013 and received an acknowledgment about eight weeks later, but the official lodgement date was August 13th 2013. When we swapped to a 143 application they counted the time we'd already been waiting. Of course this is quite a while ago now so things may have changed.

Good luck with it all and have a great holiday.

No problem, AMP, but if someone could answer my query regarding extended 12 month tourist visa, I would be grateful.

Thanks

Our 600 visa showed we were allowed multiple entries in the year and we could stay for 12 months maximum each time, so we left in the eleventh month for a week in Bali and then returned and stayed for a further 12 month period.

Hi,

I am also planning the move on my own. I applied for my Visa Sept 15 and plan to out Sept 17 on an extended tourist visa, and hope the CPV is granted within this time frame.

I will have to rent my house out in order to fund my life in oz.

Heading for the Gold Coast

Hello Mrs Bee, I to applied for our visa in September 15. Ours is a 143

A friend of ours applied in July 14 and I have been tracking his progress all the way. His visa was granted February 17. He moved over 6 months early with a 600 visa. So it took 30 months in total.

Might be an idea to get yourself a years visa if your planning to go September 17. It takes two week to process a 600 visa.

Hope this gives you some idea of visa delays.

Best regards JJ

Hello Mr fisher, might be an idea to ask your agent.

Didnt have an agent ... Probably the reason I was panicking. However I've now done what I should have done in the first place and checked the passports, and the entry from New Zealand post visa grant is clearly stamped on both. So panic over, i reckon we're fine, but thanks for the suggestion.
