fremarco 13 Posted March 13, 2014 Hi Everyone. Just thought I'd update you on the status of our Parent Visa Subclass 103. Our lodgement was in August 2006 and we were placed on the queue in November 2007. Received instructions in January, this year, to complete another dreaded Form 80, get meds and police checks done. Our son did the AoS pretty quickly and it all adds up to us getting our visas this morning, so you can imagine how happy we are. We already had flights booked for a visit in April for our son's wedding so this will now be our validation entry. Whooooopppppeeeee!!!!

Freesia 293 Posted March 13, 2014 Considering how quickly (well relatively!) these 103's are being processed now, I'm wondering why it's taking longer than ever for the 143's?
fremarco 13 Posted March 13, 2014 Considering how quickly (well relatively!) these 103's are being processed now, I'm wondering why it's taking longer than ever for the 143's? Thanks Freesia. Celebrations will take place when we get to Oz in 3 weeks. Son's stag day is already planned. Golf, bowling, snooker and dog racing in the evening. For info, the queue calculator still shows 2400 people in front of us, so it's obviously a bit out of date. Probably after it's hiccough from a couple of months ago. Take care
genie1 10 Posted March 13, 2014 Hi everyone. Been a bit busy over the last few weeks and now we are down to the last four days before we leave for Adelaide. Its all been a bit of a whirlwind and quite surreal at times. No job, no house no car and very little money left.... But hey! we certainly are realising how many good friends and family we are leaving behind and feeling a little drained by all the "Goodbyes". Final leaving do on Saturday (it will be messy!!) a weekend with best friends and off we go !! AND we get to see "The Stones" the day after we arrive ! Everything is going perfectly well and I don't feel stressed at all !! Bring it on !! Hooray at last !!xx
DavidJEngland 10 Posted March 15, 2014 We have just acquired (after 8 or 9 years on a 410) a PR visa 103 so are very keen to talk to people with PR and its associated (new) problems. The first questions are for tax help, what do I tell whom at the Inland Revenue (or whatever it's now called)? They seem to only want e mails from "Overseas Landlords"! Is my U.K. income taxed here on transfer or even if left overseas? At what exchange rate? Will the Double Taxation Relief remove U.K. liabilities? I think our frozen State Pensions are paid gross but taxed with other income in the U.K. if any. etc. etc.

Your UK source pension income is now wholly taxable in Australia. You should complete this form to ensure you are not taxed in the UK: http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kb5/hmrc/forms/view.page?record=OAwSeLMr5f4&formId=973 You may be able to claim a tax deduction in Australia to reduce the assessable amount for what is called the Undeducted Purchase Price. In respect of the UPP for the UK State Pension: http://www.ato.gov.au/Super/APRA-regulated-funds/In-detail/Paying-benefits/Undeducted-purchase-price-of-pensions-and-annuities/?page=8 If you would like to discuss further: http://www.gmtax.com.au/ Best regards. Linday 320 Posted March 15, 2014 Hi guys, I have posted these few questions a while ago re applying for PR for my parents a few years ago but I can't seem to find my previous post! I'm quite determined to put in an application but the end of this FY because the longer I wait the more it will cost! As such, I was wondering if anyone could answer my questions re the application of a contributory parent visa for my parents(143). 1)Due to the cost of the visa, I can only apply for 1 parent at the moment. Will I be able apply for my mum first then upon the grant of my mum's visa apply for the same 103 visa for my dad? My mum is 56 this year and my dad 59. 2)I have the money set aside for my mum but just in case I need the money, will I be able to delay payment of the 2nd VAC by a few weeks or months? 3)I have also thought of putting in a 143 for my mum and a 103 for my dad as my dad is still working. Is that feasible? Will DIAC look at my applications and think it's a bit weird? 4)With centrelink payments, I know that any payments will be deductible from the assurance of support bond. What payments would my mum be eligible for? i also understand that interest would be paid on the AoS but at would percentage and how often is this paid? Also, would it be paid to me or my parents? Thanks everyone! I will try and answer some of your questions although you have not made it clear whether your parents are still together or not. First of all it is your parents who will be applying for the visa, you will just sponsor them. I assume that your parents meet the Balance of Family test? 1)I assume that you mean the 143 here? On the form there is a question relating to their partner and if they are not emigrating then why not. I would think that the question of being able to afford the visa is a valid one and one parent staying behind to work. 2) The processing time for the 143 is currently around 18 months to 2 years and the second VAC is not requested until right at the end after the police checks, medicals and AOS have been paid. You normally get 28 days to pay it and you can request an extension, but you do need a valid reason. 3) I don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t be able to do this. Although the 103 has a long waiting list, around 10-15 years is being quoted –( would you parents want to be apart for so long?), however, someone has just posted on this thread that they got theirs after 8 years so who knows. If your parents are together then you might want to investigate the possibility of one of them being able to sponsor the other for a partner visa after five years, although I would take specialist advice from a reputable agent on the logisitics of this, as I am not sure if this is possible if they are no longer living together as one of them is in Australia. 4) Your mum would not be entitled to any Centrelink payments for 2 years. You can find more information here: http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/individuals/settle_pay_permres.htm http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/factors/newly_arrived.htm As you would be putting up the AOS, it would be in your name and so interest would be payable to you every six months. We are currently getting around 4%. Hope this helps.
Mozza 10 Posted March 16, 2014 Hi Genie, that is great news. Which part of Adelaide are you moving to? We have our Visa's and will be moving to Adelaide in the next 4 to 5 months. We still have to go through the goodbye stage, which will be hard. But it will all be worth it. Hope everything goes well in Adelaide. bigbadcon 10 Posted March 20, 2014 (edited) Hi folks, I'm wondering if you could tell me if I'm missing something... A couple of years ago I looked into the contributory parents visa to see what was involved in getting my parents over here and I don't remember the exact figures but it was roughly $40000 each. I had another look this morning at the 143 contributory visa and I couldn't find the huge fees I saw last time.I did find something about an assurance of support which was 10k for one parent and 4k for the other. Am I missing something or have the visas got a lot cheaper?? Thanks in advance... I submitted our application and had acknowledgement on 29/05/2012 and have heard nothing yet regards seems to take forever That seems a very long time. Our 143 application was acknowledged on 12.4.2012 and the visas granted on 13.8.2013. Our shipped goods arrived last week. The only box that had been opened, presumably by the Quarantine lot, was the one marked shoes and boots on the inventory. So make sure yours are all very clean. You had a good win over Southampton yesterday! Re your pension question: am not sure, to be honest. As you have moved to Australia I anticipate your UK State Pension should be frozen at the rate when you ceased to reside in the UK, but I'm not certain. Best regards. Fisher1 1,925 Posted March 24, 2014 Hi Spurs no1 As it happens I've just received my first dollop of state pension, together with a rule book. It says that if you leave the UK for longer than three months (nomatter what reason) you have to inform them. The state pension is frozen when you migrate to Australia, that is you get none of the subsequent cost of living raises that you would otherwise be entitled to. If you return to the UK on holiday, or visit any of the countries where your pension does have cost of living raises added, you are entitled to have the current pension paid to you for each week you are there. There's a dept. you have to contact and they raise your money to the current level until you return to Australia. Bonkers or what? If you google 'frozen pensions' there's shed loads of info on the net. 103 visa application lodged February 2013. 143 visa application submitted January 2016. Police checks and form 80 submitted February 29th 2016. Visa granted April 4th 2016.
