Why?......what have I said that is incorrect?

Eveyone is entitled to an opinion - I too think this country is going down the pan. Are you going to say I'm stupid too? I think you owe Phoebe an apology. Most of us parents are embarking on this journey to be closer to our children and grandchildren - if they weren't there, we wouldn't be going. We all know we have to put up with the rules but we don't have to like them.

I do not need to apologise to anyone....if people are going to make stupid political statements then they have to expect a response....I am entitled to My opinion as well.

If you think that the UK is going down the pan then maybe you need to live here a while to realise just how good the UK is.

Some people on this thread are so 'precious' I don't know how they'll cope in Australia. The aussies I know are a pretty straightforward bunch and don't expect to have to give an apology if they disagree with someone.

hiya

just seeking a answer to a timeline question, i came over on a spouse visa 2 years back, im perm etc etc

my parents in their 70s want to come out to live, have looked at the visa options. quickest is the contributry but they are unwilling to part with the cash but only takes say 18-24 months so then looked at the aged parent visa 804 onshore

my question being, does anyone know how long the wait is now, ive heard 15 years ?

plus, they would come on a tourist visa so am i right in thinking that they cannot then leave aus (as will be a on bridging visa) until the aged parent visa is granted ?

cheers

Hi Hels

I am sure that others more knowledgeable than I will reply. However, I can speak from our own experience. They can come on a visitor's visa but on arrival must have no intention of staying. (A tourist visa is exactly that, but if they then decide they wish to stay, it is perfectly legal to apply for an 804, non contributary visa). From personal experience it is possible to leave Australia whilst on a Bridgiing Visa but there have to be extenuating circumstances... going back to the UK to sell a house, for example, is very bad as it smacks of deceit. Going back to attend a funeral or for medical treatment for a relative for example, is perfectly acceptable.

My main reason for writing though is to ask why on earth you would be considering a contributary parent visa when a non-contributary 804 is available. If your parents were of working age, there might be a reason for them applying for a contributary parent visa which offers much faster processing at a considerably greater cost. Because your parents are well over retirement age, they would be far better going for the non-contributary 804. There is _nothing_ to be gained from going for a contributary visa... only money thrown away. They can apply onshore for an 804 provided their visa doesn't state 'no further extensions.' They just need to apply for an ordinary tourist visa and once they are in Australia, decide they do wish to stay. The contributory visa will get them residency sooner, but there is no point in doing that as they are already above retirement age (so won't be able to work). The non contributary visa (804) is way cheaper. It takes much longer (probably looking at 8 years all up at the moment) but as they wouldn't be working in anycase, that won't matter. They will still need to pass the medical, but apart from that the 804 would be a much better bet.

Hi again Flathead

As far as I know you havent said anything that is incorrect.

You have a right to your opinion.

I think we strive on this thread to be nice to each other, not because we are all raving creeps but because most of us are struggling with the sort of decisions you must have had to make yourself.

I vote for a bit of solidarity and we'll agree to disagree.

Thats my last word, promise.

Hi All!

We have been here for almost six weeks and have found lots of the 'bad' stuff from home is just as 'rife' here.

But most of the everyday stuff ......people are so helpful, food is so good, places to get to for nothing or cheap are amazing (I have to admit here to using a pensioner day pass on the buses.....$2.50 for all day anywhere, buses, trains and ferries!)

BUT I love it all and don't want to leave!!!!

I think hubby could be swayed quite easily, if all the other parts of the jigsaw fell into place.

We still have another six weeks and I am absolutely dreading having to leave this time.

Phoebe, you will know how I feel, my youngest granddaughter is just coming up to six months old!!

Fisher1, I know you too have ties in both countries, as we do.

I suppose I just wanted to bring the thread back to people supporting each other in their journeys......

G'day to anyone that has met me, or cares!!!!

Cheers Pam

The whole agreement was scrapped because of a spat between the two governments....I responded initially to a stupid post about the country 'going down the pan'.....I know perfectly well what was written. The Australian government is not blameless in this and I get fed up with people wanting to slag off the UK because they think they are going somewhere '.better'

i am affected just as much as anyone but I knew the rules before I left and no one forced me to move here

Thanks Vava......

Flathead I neither need nor want an apology.

I made a remark based on what I feel, see and live with on a daily basis in the UK and I'm entitled to do that without someone who incidently, knows nothing about me or my position financial or otherwise commenting that I have made a 'stupid political statement'

Quote "I responded initially to a stupid post about the country 'going down the pan'...." unquote

It was not a 'stupid post' nor was it a 'political' one....it was a comment I made in reply to another members post. I am not 'stupid' I do not make 'stupid' remarks and I do take offence at your coment. It was very personal and totally unnessesary.

I make a point of not discussing my political or religious views with anyone, as I said this is not a 'political forum'

I am also terminating this conversation. You have absolutely taken it out of all proportion, made it all about you and caused bad feeling among members into the bargain.

This has always been a friendly site for like minded people to help and support each other in their journeys and thankyou Stellathedog for bringing it back to where it always has and should continue to be.

We want to live in Aus and I pass the balance of family test but my partner has children that he doesn't see so we fail on that score. Does anyone have information on the business visa? Is is easy/difficult to get etc? Thank you to anyone who replies.

Can I ask which business visa are you thinking of?

Best regards.

I spoke to someone on the Gold Coast who said it had cost them around £250,000 to get their business Visa (they had bought a Cafe) I don't know what visa it was.

Sorry I can't help but good luck

Phoebe

I'm not sure as we've only just started to look into it. Maybe body corporate management.

I meant which visa subclass ... subclass 188, or subclass 457?

Can I ask your ages too?

Feel able to send an email to me (click on my name to the left of this post) if you'd prefer to discuss off forum.

Best regards.

I don't know which subclass. We can't get a parent visa because my partner has three children so we don't pass the balance of family test. We know someone who is selling an apartment with body corporate earnings. My partner is a design engineer specialising in pressure vessels and heat exchangers. He has contacts in Brisbane so would be able to get work if he could get a 457 visa. I am 60 Md he is 63. We want to live near my son and grand daughters. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?

We might be able to get you to Australia on a subclass 457 visa through what I call a self sponsored 457 strategy, but securing permanent residency (and ultimately Aus citizenship) is improbable- that's my immediate reaction anyway.

At least we would be here. How long do they last?

What about a business visa? Would that be easier? Would buying into a body corporate get a business visa?

thanks for your help.

To repeat: what business visa are you thinking of? If you haven't had a business interest in the recent past you won't be moving to Australia as the holder of a subclass 188 provisional business visa under the Business Innovation stream.

A subclass 457 visa is a renewable 4 year temporary residency visa.

Best regards.

It took about 4 weeks after our documents were submitted for DIAC to send the request for the second VAC for the 173. If you have not heard anything by the end of April I would contact them. I do know they are slow at the moment.

Dear Linday, Thank you very much for answer. I am so so nervous thinking when they will contact us again and tell for the second VAC. We was very happy when they contact us for Medical exam, but now every day is one year. Now I feel better. Thank you

Hi everyone

Just wanted to share my excitement........house went on the market yesterday and I have a viewing tomorrow night. It is pretty daunting as I have been in this house for 30 years - can't even remember selling my previous home. I see from the tracker that there has been a couple of case officer allocations - not much movement recently.

Regards, Cath
