Linday Posted August 12, 2011 Share Posted August 12, 2011 Just a word of warning regarding insurance if you intend to put your stuff in storage when it arrives. With regard to removal companies, we used John Mason and were quite impressed with the guys who came to pack our stuff up. We took delivery of our shipment last week and it went into storage, not with John Mason's agents here but with another local company as we are sharing a large unit with my daughter. The guys who delivered our stuff pointed out that a a bedroom mirror was broken and several plant pots. We insured out shipment with someone else, as we thought John Mason were too expensive (even though they actually use the same company). As the rest of our stuff is still all packed up we are not able to check if anything else was broken. We have taken out storage insurance with the storage company we are using. Our shipping insurers have informed us that we need to claim now for anything which is broken as they cannot be responsible for the goods now they are in storage of our own choice. So we now need to go and try to unpack everything just to check if anything else is damaged or broken as we only have 30 days to submit our claim. We took out the minimum insurance to cover losses at sea etc because I am an insurance sceptic. Insurers are very happy to take your money but very reluctant to pay out. Hope all is god for you. We have gone with John Mason, the current popular choice and the best price for us at £3845 for a full, sole use 20ft, next up was P.S.S. at £4032 and 3rd at £4140 was Anglo Pacific. Crown and Pickfords were just being silly at £5000 each with Pickfords taking the P by saying we needed to share a 40ft. All quotes for the same stuff.:shocked: I asked the first 3 today to re-quote and J.M. knocked £150 off to come in below £4000 so they got the booking. We have gone with Letton Percival for the insurance as at 1.5% they easily beat all companies with £493.83 for £31,000 for better cover including mildew and sets as standard. And how do solicitors manage to write an email that reads like something will happen and then ignore that when it does not? Best of luck with the sale. :wubclub: Only thing left for us to do is exchange contracts and arrange completion date .......... did I say ONLY? This is the worst part of the whole process - so near yet can't book shippers or flight yet! Bet the rate comes down another 10 cents by the time we finally get there, knowing our luck! Am about to apply for a Contributory parental visa and have found to my horror that I have been diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. Has anyone any experience please of this in the application process? Is it going to prevent me from being given a visa? I have read the official blurb and it is very 'woolly'. In all other aspects my health is good, but this is a bit of a blow. We were extremely lucky in that we had decided to rent ours out and the first people who came to look made us an offer to buy as they were only renting while they looked for a suitable house. Now i have to start the long slog...but you have given me great hope.:biggrin: Hi, and welcome I too have type 2 which was reffered to a specialist,but all ok just took another five weeks and cost anoyher £180 but thats peanuts in the scheme of things,they need records of blood control going back as far as you can so if you go to the medical prepared you should be ok. If I may just offer a word of advice (having got through the meds recently despite having had a prostate cancer operation), when the time comes (or is looming – you need to be prepared in advance), it may be a good idea to get your consultant to write a full (and, if possible without perjury, positive) report to take with you to the medical exam.
