Hi Chris,

I would suggest getting a telephone book and looking up the employers in your field of employment, then emailing or posting your CV off to them. You sound as if you are here on your own, so if you have no family ties you have the whole of Australia to choose from.

One thing I would suggest is that you enclose a 'cover letter' with each application. Australian employers seem to like the idea of reading your cover letter, then deciding if they want to look at your CV. A CV on its own does not seem to impress them.

Look at the mining industries in the various states; with your engineering background you may stand a chance with them.

Of course you cannot work at the moment, but you could explain that once the correct visa was obtained you could start work very quickly.

You may need advice from an agent about the visa, it may have a no further stay clause (8503), and this may complicate things.
