Guest Stu1980
Hi ive been in Oz on a WH visa. I have been working for my uncle who is an Australian citizen and is a Plumber/sprinkler fitter. He is willing to sponsor me or take me on as an apprentice. He lives near Newcastle, NSW, and l do not have any qualifications in the plumbing industry but as l say he would take me on as an apprentice. Im just wondering whether or not this is possible? If l could get sponsored would l be able to go to night school so l can be qualified after a number of years and then apply fo residency?
Lynne2007
Hi Stu, We are going out on a 457 sponsorship and as far as i know (not 100%) you need experience of at least 3 years in the skill going out with aswell as possibly some form or forms of qualification as the company or people sponsoring have to apply to immigration for nomination and also you need to put your qualifications on your visa application forms, it tells you about what the requirements are on the immi website on visa form 1066i which is the sponsor visa subclass 457. Hope this helps but hope you can do it and best of luck :wub:
connaust
There is a trade skill training visa but it may need to be regional which I am not sure whether Newcastle is. See http://www.immi.gov.au/students/sponsored/tst/index.htm otherwise only plumbing course for international (so far) are pre apprenticeship Cert II at Gordon TAFE in Geelong and one in SE QLD.
