Guest SusieOR Posted January 28, 2011 I remember them too! Nice to see that they have had the new edition to the family and made the move. I thought they had a great approach to migrating and had a positive attitude that really helps. I liked their rental house in Melbourne would be nice if they showed a bit more of the revisited stuff rather than repeating so much of the first show and going on and on about missing family again. Thought yesterday's episode was very boring...what's the point in showing the ones who haven't moved to Oz? Jo I totally agree with this comment... More of the revisit please!!! Guest The Ropey HOFF Posted January 28, 2011 Something that crops up in both WDU and Phil's series is that migrants always expect that selling their pokey little terrace in Grimsby will get them enough money to buy an enormous house with a swimming pool. And then they complain that a large house isn't big enough, when their old one was half the size. I know, I find this both infuriating and hilarious.:biglaugh: Great post, the houses in Australia are so completely different, its hard to believe just how big they are and the majority of uk houses are cramped and pokey compared to the massive properties in Australia. We have visited dozens of show houses in Perth and Brisbane and the fabulous state of the art house are brilliant. We live in a bigger than average 4 bedroomed detached house here in the uk, but compared to some of the properties that we were looking at, well................ ours is tiny. Amaroo 10 Posted January 28, 2011 If of any help to those waiting for shows. pasted from BBC web site. "Wanted Down Under Revisited - meeting families we have filmed with in the past and finding out if they have be brave enough to make the move to Australia or New Zealand - will be broadcast between Monday 24 January and Friday 4 February." The BBC post it is simply down to the tragic flooding that the shows due, have been held back.
The Pom Queen 5,788 Posted January 28, 2011 thats what i thought too till i onlined shopped in Coles and Woolies in Wollongong, Brissy, Perth and Melbourne and all came out way expensive (Loaf of bread uk equiv £2.70.)!!!I still am shocked, dont think exchange rate helps at the mo though ;-( Yes but you can also buy a loaf for $1.09 (equiv 68p) from Coles and Woolies If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.

The BBC post it is simply down to the tragic flooding that the shows due, have been held back. I thought yesterdays show was very positive, constructive, enjoyable, non rigid in the script and fun. The couple did not have there 'head in the clouds' or have 'rose tinted specs' and gave a few lessons out on how to go about enjoying life Down Under - whatever. They coped with the problems, finance and family addition, did what they said they would do on the card flip and went for it taking all in stride. Nicky Champan intigrated and the show was very balanced from start to finish. What I cant understand is.... those who choose to repeatedly knock the show and the families and have nothing positive to say, have said nothing! Not a word - no praise, nothing constructive - zilch. I thought certain members would ' lead the field in praise when praise was due' Why am I not suprised?
cornish78 107 Posted January 29, 2011 I thought yesterday's was good too - It looked like a good move for them. Do you know when you're on Simon? 176 Visa applied 29/4/10 (OH's Network Security), Vic SS granted 3/11/10, VISA GRANTED 14/12/10!!! Arrived in Melbourne 6/10/11 and loving it
Amaroo 10 Posted January 29, 2011 Just finished watching yesterdays show on BBC i Player due to other committments yesterday. Relative to that time when filmed originally. As she said in the opening gambit, 'we are maybe looking at Australia through rose tinted glasses'. The big difference with the Fox's were, no children, possibly the youngest yet in a programme and they met in Oz where she had gone to find work. So in all honesty a different scenario to all the others 'Revisited'. Though they had some ideas of Oz, they like all to date got some rude awakenings in certain areas of what life would be like. Outcome, settled now with a family and enjoying life down under. What more can be said ?.

steen1976 117 Posted January 29, 2011 Watched yesterdays show today after sky+ing it. Delighted for them. They knew what they wanted and went out and got it. A positive inspiration for me and my missus as we look to do a very similar move. 457 - Nomination Submitted 17/02/2011. Nomination Approved 12/03/2011. e457 Submitted 13/03/2011. Guest mannall Posted January 30, 2011 Thought the revisited "Fox" programme was the best yet. It just goes to show that it is possible to live the dream - they went from a two up two down in Yorkshire to a 4 bed detached in Oz in less than 3 years, as well as managing to start a family at the same time. Good on them - it has given me confidence that we can and will make it in NZ! Also liked the fact that Nicki Chapman actually spoke to them rather than just being a voice over. I think it made a world of difference to the programme - she came across as far less scripted.

Really enjoyed the re-re-re watch(!) of the Fox WDU episode too, I actually wasn't going to watch again as I did think it was another repeat but although 99% of it was :daydreaming: the end new bit was great to see; they look so happy and settled and their baby fox cub was sooo cute  I think the woman came accross as far more natural in the end bit .. with more of an Aussie accent too!! I too enjoyed the show. Best revisited yet. It was much better they showed more of the revisit part, and we got to see 2008 and 2010 with the Fox family. Also Nicki going to see them, that was something refreshing for the show. The couple seemed very relistic....and very fun with their backwards bungee jumping. It was great watching a younger couple who weren't planning on starting a family until they were settled into their new country. This is just like my situation, I too will not start a family until I'm settled downunder (and when my hardcore partying days are more and less over, although don't think they will ever completely go!! It will be hardcore BBQ party's instead which we have already started with uk friends) It was great to see Mrs Fox get a job on a boat, looked fastastic!! :fish2: Very good show, great couple & glad they got there in the end. Hope for all of us. Lucy. P.S. I know its a cliche saying, but if I were 20 years younger..... I would have done it all different. Do the OZ thing then take the family life, so all the best luck in the world to you and yours. My comments were only aimed at the very worst on this forum - most people are reasonable and intelligent enough to critisise when critism is due, but importantly be sensible enough to point out the good in what is clearly around, when it presents. The odd character just heaps scorn and misery no matter what, and it just gets depressingly boring. The show on Friday was a saver in terms of WDU ratings - easily the best format and show that we have seen and the couple were lovely with good outlooks and personality. I don't think we can top that! Its funny, but just want to get it out the way show wise. It kind of went flat when the floods came and we got rescheduled twice. I just hope that Brisbane and its folk are getting back on there feet. I know that one of the houses we looked at was under a few feet of water! Fortune favours the brave!! Simon

Yes I would like to say I had it all worked out, but unfortunately I'm in a game where they forgot to give me the rules.....life!! :biglaugh: With all the changes in the points system every 2 minutes I think I will have to go to plan B, go by boat!! But....where there's a will there's a way, it's not game over for us yet. That must be weird to think a house you viewed is now flooded, such a shame. Are you planning to go to the Brisbane area? Or somewhere else? I see on this series of WDU they pick where they think is suitable for you:skeptical:, was that where you wanted to go? I have been to Brisbane airport 3 times....but never Brisbane!! Only been driven through part of it to catch a ferry to Moreton Island. Not all people are all bad, life is too short to hold grudge, also too long. :goofy: tc, Lucy Dan(28)Lucy(25).Vetassess-Welder 19/1/11.Stage 1 passed 03/03.Technical interview 14/4,passed 3/5.WA SS lodged 09/05.WA SS Approved 26/05.176 Visa lodged 15/06.CO 14/07.Pc's rec 11/08.Medicals 02/09.Medicals finalised 7/9& 19/9.VISA GRANTED 27/09.Fly 5th May 12. zippyderby 150 Posted January 31, 2011 Hi everyone! Great thread and very interesting to read everybodies views on the present seris! We emigrated to Helensvale,Gold Coast end of August 2010 and have expierienced the 'ups and downs' of a move down-under but all of us feel really settled here now.It seems really strange watching the seris in Australia as we download it from UKnova which is a great website to get all your British progs that your missing being 'down-under' but I must say that we're really enjoying them all, especially the Cliff family from Leeds!!One thing they don,t point out is how exspensive 2nd hand cars are even though fuel is cheaper, the Rego you have to fork out too! That was one exspence we did,nt allow for when we came over here. Look forward to watching the'Wells Family' one when it,s on Dave,Debs,Will(17) and Theo(9) Living on the Gold Coast since 2010
Amaroo 10 Posted January 31, 2011 Comparing today's WDU with the Bristow's and the Fox's of Friday is like chalk and cheese. Today a rehash of a 5 year old WDU which has been reshown once before except for the final 10 minutes. Today's episode was almost 12 months old. I doubt the Bristow's will be settled wherever they are. As Deborah herself said, "we can't settle anywhere for long". The 2006 series had 3 job offers in 3 locations for each family. The Fox's WDU was different to all those shown to date, be it the new WDU series or the WDU Revisited. As I commented in an earlier post. The Fox's, both possibly the youngest on any of the shows to date. She was in Oz job hunting when she met her now husband. They were then single and had everything going for them with no children or other ties etc. It would indicate they had a good insight to Oz with already being there compared to a lot of the WDU would be immigrants. They returned to the UK discussed everything before starting their journey through WDU. They stuck to their plans and once resolved then started a family. Possibly the best WDU either new or revisted we will see.
KIRK AND CO 533 Posted January 31, 2011 Todays family moved in 2006-7 just at the right time for money & houses. Now moving to oz again in 2010-11 wrong time for money & houses so if the could not make it in 2006 - 7 then chances now are slim to slimmer.

Yes I thought that too, I'm sure they said they could originally move there and be mortgage free, but that will be harder to do now. It would be interesting to see them again in another couple of years to see how they got on second time round.

Amaroo 10 Posted February 1, 2011 This morning's show. 36 minutes of previous WDU and Revisit with an added update of almost a year ago of 8 minutes. Seems in reality the BBC are simply trying to fill a supposed 45 minute slot with fill in's. This morning's family as she said, 'had possibly too higher expectations initially', but in the end all came out as they had wanted. They are living the dream and show what can be done. As we have seen, some it works for others it does not and these are only what are featured on a BBC television show. In reality we are reliably informed that 10,000 were/are making that long haul every year to Oz or NZ with a large % returning to the UK. As they say, 'that's life'. Over my 40 years working, socialising and staying with the Oz people one thing that a lot have said is, 'You Poms that come to live in Oz have to stop comparing Oz against what you did and what it is like in the UK, you are now in Oz'. That sums it up possibly as part of the problem with a few who find it hard to settle. For the rest of the week they are 'Revisits' and are advertised as, Tomorrow it is the Haywards from 2006 in New Zealand, Thursday the Taylors from 2008 in New Zealand and Friday the Sanders from 2008 in Oz. Mind with the BBC anything can change !!!! For next week they are termed as 'Wanted Down Under' and they will hopefully show what they canned due to the tragic circumstances in Oz with the flooding. The only cloud at the moment that may block the ones on hold is the cyclone coming in towards northern Queensland. I am following it on radar and it looks bad. Hopefully it may veer off. Good attitude... I have enjoyed the last few days of WDU revisited... Now if someone could just get rid of Nicky C... that would be great, cause she really gets on my nerves... LOL...
