Plant Identification

Recommended Posts

Guest iselinger

This morning a very unusual plant appeared in my (Sydney, Lower North Shore) garden.

It grew overnight to about 5cm long. No leaves just a few stems of what you see in the picture. They just lifted away from the base with almost no force at all.

The really interesting thing is that they smell very strongly like "dog poo"

Anyone got any idea what they are called either cooloquially or Latin name.

I would be looking for wild mushrooms pictures to see if there is one that matches.

If you have another one, let it grow a bit more. I really think it is a stinkhorn of some kind - the dog poo smell is a bit of a giveaway!

I have searched again for other Stinkhorn pictures and I have found something that looks similar so I may have done Quoll an injustice in rejecting your suggestion earlier.

It isnt exactly the same but obviously the same family.

phallic fungus

and this is exactly the same but no details of what it is just a picture

Any way mystery solved. Thanks to all.
