I know no one will care but...........

I enjoy her catchy tunes but an 'academic conference' on a pop star? It's this type of thing that makes Australia look like a laughing stock in front of the rest of the world.

She generates the income of a small nation. Would be a major impact if anything happened to her. But apart from that, I don't understand what they actually study?

You think Unis should be kept for the elites only?

I don't really see a problem for it if there is a demand and people sign up for it. Your contention that it make Australia a laughing stock, maybe Melbourne Uni a laughing stock, will be borne out in time if there is no demand and they withdraw the course. So let up defer judgement.

I'm sure the course is only offered if there is some demand out there. She is a major success story after all. And these days Unis have to make money to survive.

I would only consider it a scam if people are not getting what they paid for.

If people know the course objectives and syllabus and want to do it, it is not a scam. Not everyone does a course to secure a high paying job either, some just want to expand their knowledge in some field or other.

Not at all, but given how expensive higher education is these day I think universities have an obligation to provide students with a high-quality educational experience, which prepares them for their chosen careers. The aforementioned activity is something which you'd expected to see hosted by a Taylor Swift fan club, not an academic institution.

I'm not sure you would do a degree on it, but if you were looking at getting a degree in media studies you would need a course on Taylor swift. Possibly even finance too. Apart from the music, she has been instrumental in challenging the industry and changing the rights of musicians. Similar in some ways as Jordan was responsible for changing the sports industry. Music and sports are huge components of industry, and do deserve to be studied and understood.

Good to see they've sorted out that north south divide problem.

Never mind, you'd have lost to the Lions in the final anyway.

Not sure how a talentless frump who used her blind son as little more than a means for free publicity was responsible for changing the sports industry...

But I'm assuming you knew that.

I thought he was Air Jordan. Named after the shoes not the airline.

I'm not really a basketball fan. I've already exhausted my knowledge.

But the movie was good.

Don't believe everything you see on social media @simmo...

"The event did not quite live up to some earlier social media hype promising thousands would attend.

Only about 250-300 people were present around 5.30pm, not including a large crowd of onlookers.

One confused bystander summed up the question of many bystanders, asking: “Isn’t he (Andrews) already gone?”

That's a huge crowd by Aussie standards. 250-300 is almost the population of a small city in some parts of the country!

Not in Melbourne. There's 5 million of us remember -- a stonking majority of whom voted FOR Dan in the last election, too
