So you didn’t approve of Dame Edna

Dame Edna was light hearted comedy, I’d say Sam smith is taking things a little far

Yes. How many more times does it need to be said.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES.

Credit where it’s due. So often we skirt around being clear where we stand on things like this because we know it’s controversial.

That’s the issue really, it shouldn’t be controversial.

We are in a sad place when it’s controversial to say what a women is.

Dane Edna made a career out of drag and quite a lot of sexual innuendo. You can’t pick and choose which drag is safe and which is not. Sam Smith is not a drag Queen.

That's not the current question under friendly debate here though @Lavers  - that's a separate debate perhaps.   This current one is whether or not people in drag character should be reading books to children.

Drag Queens don’t assert to be female. I think all drag queens have a ‘female’ alter ego but are not transgender and usually dress and identify as male or gender fluid in real life

Back on topic.
As a Mother and a Grandmother, I’d have no reservations in taking mine to see drag story time.

As a principle I would say the same.   I think generally it's a comedic character entertaining children.

I'd imagine there are individuals who's 'act' I might not be comfortable with and who I feel are inappropriate.  But that's true of any category of entertainer - it's down to that individual.

It is up to the parents to decide. Legally you have no rights or say in the matter.

73 genders!?  I'd have asked the drag queen for a list of those different genders.  That's just plain daft.  I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face while  they attempted to explain and describe each one of those 73 genders

If you did that without discussing it first with their parents then you may not be entrusted with them again.

What a strange thing to say. It goes without saying consent is gained prior to all outings or activities.

Oh dear. I thought as much. So drag is a 'weird sexualized practice? In your eyes? Was Barry Humphries that way do you think? Or Paul O Grady?

You feel exposure to drag queens will cause lasting harm and make kids question their own gender identity? We'd better ban panto if that's the case.

apples and oranges...

Lets compare it to what's happening in the UK (a bit more relevant)

This is on at the Tate Britain

Hear children's author Aida H Dee The Storytime Drag Queen tell stories in the galleries!

Join @DragQueenStoryHourUK for an exciting Pop-up in the galleries this February half-term. Hear fabulous stories in an exciting storytime show from Aida, the first drag artist in Europe to read stories to children in a nursery.

Aida H Dee is an ADHD, neurodivergent, queer hero of literature, theatre, and children's entertainment. She is a patron of Autistic Inclusive Meets London, a professional author, a five star Edinburgh Fringe act, has been featured on Forbes Magazine for being an activist for neurodivergence, and has recently been awarded Local Leader Of The Year in 2022 by PinkNews.

do some digging on Aida H Dee and this...

This week, three groups, Artists Against Propaganda (AXP), Transgender Trend (TT) and Safe Schools Alliance (SSA), teamed-up to launch a petition calling on the gallery to “stop targeting kids with gender propaganda”. The organisations listed social media posts by Samuel (AKA Aida H Dee) which they referred to as “safeguarding red flags” — including jokes about anal sex at orgies — arguing that had a teacher made similar comments online, they would be sacked. As an aside, an earlier petition launched on change.org was removed without warning; presumably child safeguarding is considered unsafe to the sensibilities of gender ideologues.

which is why Dame Edna was never hired to do Drag Queen story hours for very young children.

There are actually 81 genders.  🙃  Here they are: https://helpfulprofessor.com/types-of-genders-list/

I've had enough of this nonsense.  I'm off to bed.  Night night.

BTW I identify as number 17.

The government launched a three-stage independent investigation in response to the claims and found the reports were “inaccurate” and had had a “detrimental impact” on staff at the school.

“Public references to a drag queen delivering a session at a drop-down day at QEII in September 2022 are inaccurate, but it is understood that the guest speaker referred to does occasionally perform as a drag artist,” Edge told the island’s parliament.

The report found that at no point did a speaker remove a child from the classroom and that sex was not mentioned in the class at all, which was wrongly reported as a sex education lesson.

Umm a report by the government 🤔 the school authorities have decided to start using drag queens in schools, these school authorities are tied in with government.

Not surprising they found it all to be false then really is it?

Also the next paragraphs from the same report you posted:

The investigation found that a child had asked how many genders there were and the speaker, who had been invited as a guest to talk about “gender-neutral language and the concept of gender in the LGBTQ+ environment”, responded that there could be as many as 72 gender identities.

Later, a child was briefly taken outside the classroom by a teacher to “remind the pupil of the school’s expectations that all pupils are entitled to their own opinions, and that they do not have to agree with a guest speaker, but they do have to show respect”.
