Most of the rockers from the sixties and seventies will be well into their seventies, so hardly surprising they're now dying. Paul McCartney for example is now in his 80's

They're all over 60 now.  It would be very surprising if they weren't dying off.   In case you hadn't noticed, people do die when they get old, and some of us age faster than others due to genetics if nothing else.

I think there's probably a sad story somewhere in Cliff Richard's life.  I suspect it will eventually turn out that he's gay and couldn't come to terms with it, which is why he turned to religion.

Well who hasn't. There was talk on his personal life. But as far as I am aware he never abused his body with drugs as was pretty much the norm of people in the entertainment industry.

I guess you were unable to avoid an all too common patronising comment on a statement of fact on my part. No matter used to it by now.  Thing being some people age well, while others, especially in the music industry have a history of abuse of drugs and poor lifestyle choices. It went with the territory. Due to the fact that many are well over sixty , many seventy, it will indeed appear an avalanche in the mortality scales for so many names we grew up with , probably in many cases only  generation or less older. It does bring home one's own mortality.

I'm not argueing against that. Simply making a statement of fact. But I still feel it will highlight our own mortality, at least those of us in the following generation behind.

I don’t think there’s really much question about wether he’s gay or not. Lives with his long term ‘friend’ or companion as I think they call them. Ex priest did I read? No surprises there. I don’t really have too much of an opinion on him other than that he’s absolutely cringe.

If he is in a consenting relationship with a former priest, I don't see why that should make anyone cringe.

Never said anything wrong with being gay or him being gay or him being with an ex priest. He says he’s not gay and then is ambiguous in interviews. None of my concern but offered my opinion is all. Not sure why you felt need to mention paedophilia at all? Not sure what constitutes ‘acting gay’ so I can’t comment on that.

He was likely as many an actor or entertainer attempting to guard his clean cut image. Not sure why that should make you cringe. While there was talk with regards to his private life, he never to my knowledge caused any sensational comment , something of a rarity in the industry he is in.

That's not what makes me cringe. It's his demeanor, his songs, his getting up at the tennis, his image. I'm sure he's a perfectly nice man but he's just not my cup of tea.

I don't think it is anyone's business either. People like to make all sorts of judgements and assumptions  about others, it's just what humans tend to do.

Nothing at all.  I didn't say anything was "wrong".  I said I find it sad when someone is so uncomfortable with their sexuality that they keep it a secret for years.  It must be tough on them, having to keep all their relationships secret, sneaking around through back doors and never being seen together in public.  It's equally tough on their partners, who can never be acknowledged.

As recently as 1996, long after people like Elton John had come out and there was really no need to be coy, Cliff was still flat-out denying he was gay.  By that time, most people would've said, "He's gay?  So what?".  Any stigma to being gay or asexual was all in his own mind, and I can't see how that would make anyone happy.

Iknowcb...I  havent been on here much (well I dont really post on here anymore) but thought I would update those who are still following my journey

 

VISAS GRANTED!! Our 491 visas were granted late December (when we thought immi had shut for the holidays, nope lol). 

Obviously gotta do the 3 years regional until we get PR that is fine by us as we don't want to live in a capital city anyway  

Heading out in June and starting to apply for jobs and get things organised now

Dreams really do come true, just gotta put in the work and persevere  

 

PS: we used the Down Under Centre who are excellent at what they do!

I was surprised to hear that Jacinda Ardern the NZ PM has resigned.  She was hugely popular when elected but not so now.  Don't think how she handled the Covid lockdown helped amongst other things.
