newjez 10,749 Posted January 12, 2022 If I could give advice to my younger self, I'd tell me never to stop running. I used to be pretty good as a youngster. But I keep hurting my Achilles. Nothing serious, but the pain is telling me it's not a good idea. Cycling and walking are good, but running is fun, and it's so time efficient. Back on the diet after Xmas. A kilo off my pre Christmas weight. Another ten kilos off and I may be brave enough to try running again. May do some hill work on the bike in the meantime to get my fitness up. Been riding up handcross hill which is pretty steep. But nothing really does it like the ride up ditching beacon. So hard during British winter time. The day just goes in a blink of an eye. And it's been pretty cold. Nearly there! Don't drop the ball now guys! Vaccines are weeks away. Stay safe!

So different to Sky News in the UK which comes across as reasonably balanced. Whilst in Australia in December I had the misfortune to turn on Sky News and witness several minutes of contemptuous and totally transparent culture-war baiting. Do they really think people are gullible enough to be influenced by such rubbish? As I turned it on, the middle aged white guy presenting had evidently just referenced some news coming out of New Zealand and I joined in time to hear several minutes of the like of "I would say 'good woman' to Jacinda Arden for this move, but that's not allowed these days and the woke lefties would come out and have me cancelled". Pantomime level nonsense. 2 1 British | Lived in Australia 2001-02 on 457 | Married Aussie wife & moved back to UK | Plan to return to Sydney 2026 when all kids have finished school 5 Feb 2023 - 309/100 submitted | 14 Mar 2023 309 & 100 granted

Small numbers, but a large percentage of their audience. Criticise everything, contribute nothing agitators. Murdoch would have done the same to Sky News UK if it wasn't for the phone hacking scandal, forcing him to withdraw his takeover plans just before Parliament voted unanimously to ask Murdoch to basically, get lost anyway. Later in 2016, Murdoch's Fox was only authorised to do a full takeover of Sky if he offloaded Sky News to keep the news separate from the entertainment. He did not proceed in the UK and lost out, but another linked company bought Sky News Australia outright. The quality difference between UK and Aus is astounding. Sky News UK is a news channel, Sky News Australia after 7pm at night is just a cesspit. There's a reason they call it "right at night", and that doesn't go far enough. HappyHeart 13,971 Posted January 14, 2022 A current affair is the pits. Sensationalism at its worst and just blatant advertising. Truly trash tv.

My daughter was on current affair. She is epileptic and tik tok had been posting dreadful clips of stupid people pretending to be having a fit and dying. She was interviewed sympathetically on behalf of people with epilepsy, she put the case across as someone who has to live with the condition in a strong and balanced way, and how hurtful and inappropriate some people think it is to mock a disability. So it was an important message and I’m quite upset to see her Input potentially labelled as truly trash TV, Her views were picked up nationally, plenty of publicity, which although sadly didn’t change tiktok, it at least bought the message to some about how cruel, ignorant and inappropriate it is to mock people with a disability. I apologise. That sounds like it was very useful tool for her to get the message across. I do sympathise. The sections I’ve watched have been quite terrible and bordering on harassment of people and sensationalism. Plus blatant advertising for Coles or Woolies or whatever. I haven’t watched it much so I’m probably not in a position to make a balanced point. Sorry for any offence 2

Toots 11,508 Posted January 14, 2022 For news on the telly, I watch ABC Tasmania for more local news and SBS for other news. Rarely watch the commercial channels for news. For reading news online, the best one for me is Reuters International news and views.

It's not just a matter of advertising spend, it's a matter of legal fees. They can attack a small business knowing they have deeper pockets to fight the case, but a big business may well have deeper pockets than they do. FirstWorldProblems 1,590 Posted January 15, 2022 I know no one will care but……. I just had the most amazing trail run. 2.5 hours across fields, through woodland, hills and tracks. Dodging mud, ice cracking under foot and breath crisp at -1 Celsius so the views were rolling white fields for miles. 4 foxes, 2 deer, countless sheep and horses. I feel alive. Now for a bacon sandwich and a cup of tea. 2 British | Lived in Australia 2001-02 on 457 | Married Aussie wife & moved back to UK | Plan to return to Sydney 2026 when all kids have finished school 5 Feb 2023 - 309/100 submitted | 14 Mar 2023 309 & 100 granted
