Yep, it must be the most annoying bird call I've ever heard.  I love wildlife but so help me, there were times I was tempted to hunt it down and wring its neck.

My son has a gun!!!!

  • Thanks 1

Well that's not going to help. It's almost impossible to wring something's neck with a gun.

I am listening to the birds twittering and singing and thinking how I don't miss the screechy birds that were around our suburb in Sydney.  One bird call that used to drive me nuts was from a bird called a koel.  It makes a persistent, monotonous cawing noise and there was one in a nearby large tree that never seemed to shut up.  I never actually saw it but I always knew when it was there.

My favourites are the fairy wrens, robins and blackbirds.

I was edging the lawn the other day, when I heard a russel in the shrub nearest to me, and then a sparrow hawk flopped out onto the ground about a foot from me. I could of touched it.

I can only assume it thought my gloved fingers were a mouse. It looked confused, but wasn't fazed by me. It sat there for a minute just watching me, then flew up onto the fence.

I have a wood store behind the shrub, so there could be mice there. Possibly that's why it was hanging around there.

Dont have to climb the tree to catch the little bugger if you can blow its head off!

Is that very poisonous?

@newjez, apparently not, but I always wash my hands thoroughly when coming into contact with trichodesmium.

Cheers, Bobj.

Fishing this morning and saw a big patch offshore of trichodesmium; the algal bloom that appears during the warmer months...And very, very smelly.

A small pool, perhaps 12 x 6 metres

I did my smsts refresher yesterday (and the day before).  Much harder than the first one (5 years ago) and you are supposed to do it in 2 days (original is 5 days).

I passed but half the class failed.  They have made it much tougher. 5x safety critical questions and you need all of them.  Someone had 90? Percent but got one of these wrong and failed.

Very intense and stressful 2 days.

Glasgow has been listed as the top cultural and creative centre in the UK in a report from the European Commission.  Following in the top five were London, Bristol, Brighton and Manchester, with Edinburgh just missing out in sixth place.

Glasgow came first for "openness, tolerance and trust" and "cultural participation and attractiveness."

The study ranks 190 cities in 30 European countries on various factors.

"Cultural vibrancy", "creative economy", and the ability to bring in creative talent and nourish cultural engagement were all taken into account.
