Guest Barefootpip
Hi all. We have moved to Oz and living in Redcliffe Qld. Life is good here. The beach is my new best friend, 1 in 10 people go barefoot and I keep saving cockroaches . The problem is I became a veggie last year because I have so much compasion for animals  and couldn't bare to have an animal die for me. I EVAN STEP OVER ANTS. I use to eat Quorn products or Lynda Mccartney food. Over here though they havn't reached Australia and i'm not too keen on tofu as it's rather bland evan with flavouring. I have found it very difficult with no quorn to use as a substitute so I have been thinking and bought a smal piece of fish to see if I could eat it. I have eaten my tea which was pasta with spicey tomatoe sause and was SO FREAKED :arghh: I couldn't eat the fish and gave it to our kitty. Is there any other veggies in Oz or evan closer that can help me with my Serious problem. My rule for food is "Nothing with a face". Many thanks for reading this... Pip. possie in brissy
Hi all. We have moved to Oz and living in Redcliffe Qld. Life is good here. The beach is my new best friend, 1 in 10 people go barefoot and I keep saving cockroaches . Hi there Pip, I too live in Brissy, not far from Redcliffe Peninsula (Northlakes in fact) I am a vegie and also found it difficult when I first got here and started eatin Fish (which like you made me bawk) however I have since tried marinanated Barramundi on the BBQ which i MAKE myself eat maybe once a month!!!! But check out the "Sanatarium" website, woolies and coles stock there items and they are similiar to Linda McCartney range, you will usually find them in the fridge part, you know like were all the cheeses and dips are, they do a "Deli" style slice, which looks like salami (but obviously isnt) which makes a change on sandwiches from cheese and egg, they also do sausages, bacon style rashers, actual vegetable sausages which are made of blended spuds and vegies, They also do lentil burgers!!!! and just recently have brought out a new range of vegetarian kebabs, (which are yum) they are marinated in chilli and spices and are lovely in a pita bread with salad and tahini!!!! Also in the freezer dept "greens" do a range of vegie burgers and cottage pies and frozen lasagnes for quickness. (normally in a freezer by the pies) More woolies than coles tho) I found it difficult and frustrating when i 1st arrived 4 yrs ago (there was hardly anythin) everytime anyone went back the uk, i had my shoppin list ready LOL. However it has gotten better now with a much bigger range!!!! Also for fast food "Hungry jacks" do a lovely vegie burger !!!!! and have you tried "Falafel" they are normally by the vegetarian range!!!!!(not sure who makes them tho, nice hot on a wrap with "Tabouli" and garlic and mint sauce!!!! they also do them at the takeaway "kebab shops" Yummmmmm!!!!!!!!! Oh and lastly have you tried "Haloumi" when you go to barbies its great, Its a greek cheese, that doesnt melt and it is sooooooooooooo nice, you will find it normally by all the feta and specialised cheeses, you just literally slice (in thick slices longways) its about $5.00 a block (u can get it in Aldi too) and throw it on barbie for like 30 seconds each side, and serve with salad on a bread roll, tell ya u will be hooked, its a common joke now at barbies "here she comes with her Haloumi, and NO no-one is gettin any" cause it goes on the BBQ and everyone dives on it and leaves me 1 slice, so i have learnt to get 1st in the Q, LOL Anyway talkin all this is food is makin me hungry haha. Good luck with it all, "you will be right" Take Care:hug:
