Does anyone have a draft CV to be used for Australian jobs please? I am sure these are completely different to the ones we use in the UK. Thank you.

when we were advised what to do we felt a little uncomfortable at how much you need to blow your own trumpet (not entirely the british way!)... but you really have to lay on thick your skills think American in your approach!! (they need to see that you are better than a local)... they also are VERY keen on statistics i.e. percentages of growth etc and above the norm achievements.... awards won, certificates achieved, etc. Basically SELL SELL SELL yourself. Each CV MUST ALSO be accompanied by a relevant covering letter i.e. not generic... It must include references to the company you are applying to and an understanding of their business (look at their website for stuff to draw from)... we learnt the hard way and our first batch of cvs had an accompanying letter saying 'please find attached my Resume which I hope will be of interest to you.... yours faithfully etc' WRONG WRONG WRONG... THEY WANT BLOOD! LOL.

its really hard to secure a job before you get to oz most companies wont touch you unless your on ozzy soil,my husband had his cv done when we were in the uk but we still found it hard so then went on careerone and read the way ozzys do their cv (resume)they prefere this word,we had cv re-written in the australian resume style we had to print the tips given on the website"careerone"and take them to the person doing the cv .he did manage to secure work before we got here but only because we found loads of company names and numbers ans sat up till early hours and bloody phoned these people and asked for a job "bingo"its quite old fashioned here really ozzys like to think they are up with tech stuff but actually they do stuff the old way IN PERSON be prepared to door knock be cheeky take a chance and they admire your guts and if you still get knocked back TRY TRY TRY again you'll get there.

I have found that I have not had to change my CV very much between the UK and Aus (i am a social worker)

I think the main reason you cannot get a job before you get to Australia is that we move between employment a lot quicker. Usually have to give a shorter notice period and can start your new job heaps quicker, not like here where I have had to give 2 months notice to leave (was 2 weeks in oz) and also had to wait 4-5 months to start for all the police checks etc in the UK - could not beleive how slooooow it has been here in the UK in some jobs.

I am looking for jobs for when I get home in January but will not even think of applying before I get there - good to get a feel for what is about though.
