Validation Trip in Perth

Hi guys

We are in Perth validating our visas and having a great time!

We arrived last Friday (9th October) with Emirates and thought they were great - and even though our flights were a little delayed we arrived in Perth earlier than expected! We did expect a fanfare when we handed in our passports to validate visas but they didn't even mention it! We hired a car at the airport with Hertz and it was no trouble at all! We rented a house in Quinns Rocks through Holiday Lettings and it is amazing! We are so at home here that we do not want to go home in 2 weeks time!

We have met so many lovely people and everyone is soooo friendly nothing is too much trouble!

We decided to set up as many practical things as we could whilst we are here so that we are ready to go as soon as we make the big move - we got our TFN numbers so no delay when we finally settle here!

We walked into a bank off the street to open a bank account and were looked after straight away and we were given coffees and the kids lollies (sweets) can you imagine that in HSBC!

We enrolled with Medicare and even attended the local Uni in Joondalup about re-training - the Uni is great and the people soo helpful!

The restaurants are great, the food is lovely and atmosphere so relaxed! The Supermarkets are well stocked with fresh good quality! We have Foxtel which I would certainly recommend!

We have been advised to avoid the following areas Clarkson, Butler and Merriwa though we have not seen anything untoward ourselves - in general Perth is so clean & tidy and the people so friendly.

We plan to go to Freo tomorrow and then hope to get around as much as Perth as possible!

We have not got a negative word to say so far!

We will keep you posted

Hi boogaloo,

Welcome to Perth. Quinns is great as is Mindarie. Just agreeing with you on the Clarkson, Butler and Merriwa comment. We have been in Clarkson sine we arrived in May this year and find it a great place to live. Close to all public transport and a good shopping centre at Ocean Keys. Clarkson and Butler are also quite sought after areas for rentals. I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion but that is their opinion and you should make your own decision where you eventually settle. Butler is also a fab place and really really friendly. I have made some good friends that live in Butler and Clarkson. I cannot comment on Merriwa because I have not been there yet. Clarkson is the best choice we made and we are extremely satisfied with our choice.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay and you decide to settle in the area. Keep us posted on your progress.

Have a great time.

Regards

Hi Louise

TFN is Tax File Number and you will need one if you intend to work in Perth! It can take 4 - 6 weeks to get one and if you want to work straight away it would be a problem as (a) you may not get a job without one or (b) you may be put on emergency tax!

You can apply online to do it at www.ato.gov.au - when you get onto the site you are applying for a migrant tax number - miss the first page which has a load of links and press next, then miss the next page and start the application on the page that asks for your passport number - it is really simple and all you need is your passport number (and your personal details obviously) but you will need an address in Perth for it to be sent to - can you ask a friend you made while over here if you can use their address to send your TFN to?

Good luck and any further queries just pm me

Hi welcome to Perth! Hope you have a great time! The weather is hotting up for you! Just commenting on a post above about Butler and Clarkson. As they said, form your own opinions of these areas! We have lived at Clarkson and its a good place to live. We are building at Butler, its a new up and coming area and although it has not got much "character" yet, it will get there! Dont be put off by others "opinions" cos thats all they are opinions and not facts. Although everyone is entitled to them! Beach weather this weekend!!!

Totally agree with Mad Cow. We got plenty of comments when looking for a house, and bought in Clarkson due to not being able to afford other places. We have been here about 5 months and find that it is fine, there are problems anywhere, even in the poshest places.

Good luck with your trip in Perth.

Liz
