2 years in WA!! do i have to??

hi i moved to Perth from UK about 4 weeks ago, on a 176 state sponsored skilled visa so i'm supposed to stay in WA for 2 years!

I know its early doors but i get the feeling that as a single 35 yr old male im gonna want to move on to either Melbourne, Sydney or the Gold coast. Nothing against Perth its a lovely place and the slower pace appealed to me but it seems slower and more backward than i thought. (no offence)

I will stick around if i have to as i do enjoy it here and once i get a proper stable job ill probably settle in more. However.....

My question is can i leave the state before the 2 years are up and live and work elsewhere? or will that displease the WA government who doesnt like change?

thanks

Dont hold me to this, Gill or other equally knowledge filled people will hopefully reply and give you a 100% answer, but i think so long as you inform the state your are moving you can leave. HOWEVER double check this, but im pretty sure thats what i have heard.

4weeks isnt long tho mate so take your time and dont make a hasty decision, Northbridge is more of a lively and happening place try heading there and see what you make of it.

Good luck mate!

I'm sure Gill has previously said that they won't hold you to it, however, you do have to inform them as I believe you are sent a something to fill in every 6 months or so to confirm where you are living. Can I ask why you chose Perth if you wanted something more lively - certainly Melbourne or Sydney may be better for you.

How can you call a place "backward" and not offend people? Do your research before moving to the other side of the world might be a good place to start?

Lets not be so harsh eh! All the research in the world cannot prepare you for what is out there!

FOr some people their priority is getting here and research doesnt always come into it!!!

The poor guy has only been here 4 weeks, his expectations may have been high!

WHen I came out here, I came out here for my OH who had always wanted to do this. i did NO research whatsoever...my theory being that if I wasnt expecting something I had nothing to be disappointed by!

WOrked for me!

I believe that if your VISA is for WA then you would need to re-apply for a visa for one of the other states.

4 weeks is no way near long enough to decide if a place is for you. Once you make a few friends, you may find it's ok.

I admit that shops not being open on sunday and shutting at 5.30 is a little hard to get used to - but the lifestyle here is far better becuase of it, and isn't it all about that?

I would agre that if you want nightlife then try Northbridge. But nights out can be pretty pricey in Perth, most places charge $10 for a pint of beer!

They do send a form out to fill in every six months or so to check up We're just about to fill in our final one in next couple of weeks,, and time has flown by:cute:

I think I read somewhere that some states allow a move but others don'tthink it was DIAC's site I read it on, but I can't remember which states were which

Your obligation to stay in WA is only a moral one and you are free to move whenever you like, I would not inform them of the move if I were you as there is nothing they can do anyway they cannot revoke your visa or anything and you def dont have to apply for another visa to move to a different state!! We are moving to Perth with a young family and I totally get that you would not fancy staying there as a single guy you might be better off in one of the cities but I would look into work before you head off to be sure you have something to leave Perth for.

Nite or arvo out for a few bevvies a couple and you are lookin at 150 bucks, the one drwback for perth is it is a bit isolated but asia is on your doorstep thailand the place to go for dental work and a nice woman if you want lol

Playing devils advocate, but if WA were good enough to sponsor you for the visa, don't you feel like repaying that back a little and putting something into the state economy. Not having a go ... but it's something that I'd probably want to do myself because it would feel the right thing to do?
