Guest Sam Baker
Hello We are hoping to move out to the Sunshine Coast in Jan/Feb 2010 (I am planning to come over on a student visa - studying at the University of the Sunshine Coast). My husband and son will also be on this visa and I am looking for some guidance on good secondary schools in the area. If anyone has any first hand experience, or just general info/gossip etc., it would be most helpful.....................!! I've looked on line and spoken to; Chancellor College, Mountain Creek, Coolum State High School and Marooychdore!! They all have very similar annual report results and quite honestly I am completely confused. My son is doing well at school here - he works hard and I'd like him to go somewhere reasonably relaxed - most important thing to us is that he enjoys school and looks forward to going, rather than he gets straight As but is thoroughly miserable!! We are also uncertain as to where in the area we want to live - we would prefer a newish house/estate where our son can go out and about on his bike etc., Sippy Downs looks like the obvious choice, but is it a bit soul-less?? Couldn't quite figure out just how "new" the estate is..............?? Anyway if there is anyone out there who can help, that would be great. Guest chan
Dear all, I have migrated to SA under 475 visa. Unemployment seems to be quite high here in Adelaide. I am considering the option of moving to QLD.I can stay ,work and live anywhere excepet in Brisbane or Gold coast. Can any body advise a reasonable better place in terms of jobs available and cost of renting a two bedroom apartment in any regional areas in QLD. Many thanks. Guest tinabeana
Hi Sam, I work at the Uni and have 2 girls aged 9 and 13. the youngest goes to Chancellor primary and my eldest goes to Chancellor state college. I must say they both seem happy enough and I have no complaints about the school. We have just built our first house on the Bellflower estate on Sippy Downs which is a very new estate and we love it. Previously we lived on acreage which held the kids back and they never really had a life whereas they love living on the estate. There are some great buys at the moment and plenty of land being released in this area. I am happy to tell you whatever I can and show you round if you like? Just let me know. Regards, Tina. Guest darkhorse
Hi, I have two boys, both very different, one very studious 8yr old ,one dreamer 12 yr old. We has issues with our 12 yr old in Uk school, because he sat quietly he was completly overlooked, fell behind lost all his confidence. Started them in Tallara school Currimundi, biggish school but very focused on the individual pupil, our eldest is now back on track full of confidence , leading roles in school plays, he's loveing it, the youngest one is getting straight A's. I have no experience of other schools to compare but there does seem to be a totally different ethos between student & teachers here. Not the starchy relationship a more one to one ,talk to not at, and most kids like the teachers for it,or so in my eyes. So I don't think you can go far wrong as there are very few bad schools here, not that i have heard of anyway. Hope this reasures you at least.......cheers
