Are you looking for a new dog or cat?

If you are thinking of adding to your family with a new dog or cat, I can highly recommend adopting an animal from Pets Haven, in Woodend, Victoria.

They are a pro-life shelter who rescue animals due to be euthanased at pounds and ensure they are all healthy, desexed and vaccinated before going to their new family.

Due to the current economic climate their adoptions this year are down and this is affecting how many animals they can help. If you are looking for that new friend it is much better to adopt than buy from a pet shop (as these animals are often from puppy farms and raised in terrible conditions).

Although situate in Victoria, they will adopt interstate.

If interested, please go to their website, www.petshaven.com.au or telephone (03) 5427 3603.

Thanks for this website, I am hoping to take my 2 cats with me but when it's their time I will come and have a rescue 2 again. My sis does this in Texas, USA and I would recommend anyone helping them out.

We didn't bring our 3 cats as we were going into very temporary accommodation before renting a house and it was uncertain if we could find anywhere we could keep them, so we rehomed them with friends and family. We could have tried to bring them over later but one was too old, one not quite so old but too fat and the other too nervous so we didn't think if fair to put them through the flight, plus they had settled into their new homes (the eldest passed away a couple of months ago aged 17). They were all rescue cats.

We're waiting for permission from our landlord to have pets, but this time we will have a dog as I've got the time to look after it (which I didn't have in the UK as we both had to work full time) plus we live next to a busy main road and a cat is too likely to get run over (seen 2 killed since we've been here).

Yay - got permission to have pets from the landlord! Looking to adopt two dogs - a kelpie cross and a terrier cross, so they keep each other company when we're out.

Congratulations, that is great news!!!

Wow Vicky, you are going to have your hands full with those two, I am a qualified dog trainer and kelpies and terriers definately need lots of excercise, at least you have some wonderful areas to excercise them.

Can I also ask that people look in the Lost Dogs Home unlike where I worked at the Lort Smith and Pets Haven they are very quick to put the dogs to sleep after their 8 days and because of the high turn over they don't spend as much time looking for homes for their dogs, so I see a visit there as a number one priority, the Lort Smith and Pets Haven go out of their way to ensure a good home and do not have the same time and space constraints.:wubclub:
