shaunkaren
We are planning our move to Melbourne and plan to settle in the Point Cook/Sanctuary Lakes area. We did post a while ago about others going there and I have lost all track of who is going where and when (who says you lose your marbles when planning a move to the other side of the world!!). We are hoping to land anytime between late November/ early January - haven't booked the flights and will probably book about 4 days before we leave at this rate (nothing like flying by the seat of your pants is there??). If there is anyone in, or moving to the area it would be great to get in touch, especially if you have kids ( our son is 11 and mad on sport, our daughter is 10 and mad on street dancing) - it would be great to know there is a friendly face or two for those first few daunting outings before we find our feet. It's always best to know which places to frequent (or not as the case may be!!), we have been in touch with Kate from M2M and she has been a gift from heaven with regards to the local schools etc. Look forward to hearing from anyone interested in a meet for coffee, a beer, or a bottle of wine (or two!) when we arrive or even before we go if you are still in the UK!! Guest Prickles83
Hey, We fly out to Oz on the 28th December to the Hoppers crossing/point cook/werribee area (depending on rental) we won't be in that area until 1st week of February. Would be great to keep in touch and know how each other are getting on! Good luck for the move! Holly & Darren
shaunkaren
Hi Holly and Darren Really spooky about your flight date - that is the one I suggested to Shaun about two months ago! I think it is the psychological thing of being in a new country for the start of a new year. Good luck with the move and keep in touch. We still have the house to sell/lottery to win before we make final arrangements!! Guest ShazzyL
Hi there, We moved to Point Cook in June this year and it is the best thing we have done!! We moved over with a teenager daughter and a baby daughter. It was difficult to meet friends then one day on Poms in Oz I got a reply to a thread and I haven't looked back yet. there is quite a lot of poms in Point Cook and a there is a group of us that meet up regularly for coffee or even going out for drinks or meals or even to the cinema. Most of us have kids at all different ages so there won't be a problem with your kids making friends!!! Point Cook Primary is moving out of the RAAF base and into the centre in February 10, I believe that is one of the better public schools in the area. If you have any questions about the area etc please feel free to get in touch. Sharon
shaunkaren
We have been sent details of Werribee High school by Kate of M2M and have to say it looks fantastic (although out of catchment). I would love to know other peoples opinions of the high schools in the area though. Looking forward to coffee already!! Karen
Guest ShazzyL
My daughter goes to point cook senior college, this is only it's second year so no exam results to go on. She enjoys it but says the education here is a few years behind the uk! No excuse for not passing her exams then eh! Sx
Guest ShazzyL
I forgot to say that both your kids will be in primary as secondary usually starts in year 10 which is about 15 years old. Primary schools go up to year 9 here. Just what that you don't enrol them in a school that only goes to year 7 then have to move to another school for 8 & 9 then again to secondary at year 10!! Guest ShazzyL
Hi karen you must be getting very excited and a bit nervous too, I can remember how I felt!!! Point cook has a good rep here, not sure about seabrook, I'll try and find out for you!!! Stay clear of caranballac tho, not good at all! Parents taking their kids out left right and centre and are being inspected for it as we speak. Well probably not on Christmas day but you know what I mean hehe look at realestate.com.au for rentals it will give you everything. Just go into rentals, Victoria and then enter the suburb you are interested in! Feel free to contact me with any queries you may have but once you get here you will never look back! Take care and speak soon Sharon

CLAK
Hi Sharon and Susanne and thank you for your replies. Re Schools, I heard that Caranballac was not very good. Obviously we are just going on what we can read on line but want to have a look at Point Cook and Seabrook. And thank you both for being so positive. Im having the wobbles, but am also very excited. Off to hand my notice in at work this week. Can I invite myself to a coffee morning in February? Karen
