Guest confussed
Hi was wondering if someone could answer some questions for me. My bf has a e visitor tourist visa valid until 3012/09. We have been told he can apply for a new one before the old one expires and it will follow on. What we are wondering if he comes before the 30th and then leaves does that mean that the new visa will mean he can return again after that date on the new one? Or if he comes before the old one expires would that cancel the new one? Also does anyone know how long between each 3 month visit is needed before you can return? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks
Happy Lass
I don't think there is a set limit on how long you must be away from Australia to be able to come back in on a new tourist visa - or the same one if it is still valid. Afaik unless it's recently changed, tourist visas are valid for one year for trips of 3, 6 or 12 months depending on what you apply for. He may not actually need to apply for a new one unless that is he wants to stay for more than 3 months per trip.
Guest wanderer
Confussed, [supposed you meant to be confused? though weight of regulations could also concuss!]My bf has a e visitor tourist visa valid until 3012/09. We have been told he can apply for a new one before the old one expires and it will follow on. What we are wondering if he comes before the 30th and then leaves does that mean that the new visa will mean he can return again after that date on the new one? Or if he comes before the old one expires would that cancel the new one? But just following on from Happy Lass it can depend on the particular Visa and for instance the eVisa that is free is good for 3 month stays with a 12 month period. eVisitor That one can not be extended but you can apply for a different visa to stay longer [one that costs] and as soon as granted it will cease your eVisa. As far as using the eVisa [or an ETA for that matter] to stay, depart and then return as HL says there is no set period you have to be away for but immigration can expect to see that any person wishing to enter Australia anytime has suitable funds with which to support their visit.
